You lot need to come down my way to our local specialist beer place. It is called Bitter Virtue (for massive real ale pun damage).

Website is 7 years out of date, but I always go there cos it is the only place I can buy Victoria Bitter.

Getting us back onto tasty beers...

Tesco’s Finest - IPA Extra Hopped
Crafted by Williams Brothers of Alloa using soft Scottish water and the finest Scots ale malted barley. Generously hopped with First Gold, Styrian Goldhops and Cascade Hops or a distinctive bitter finish.
I had high hopes for this brewed as it is by Williams Brothers who also brew the Seven Giraffes I raved about recently. While not quite as tasty as that fine ale its still a very good beer with a good hoppy taste. 8/10.

Meantime - Winter Time Winter Warmer
English Fuggles hops, dark malts and smoked malt provide a fireside warming brew.
Malty with a lingering mildly smoky aftertaste. Slightly too fizzy but still very worthwhile. Gets a 7/10.

Edit: The more you drink of this winter warmer the better it gets. Its risen to a 9/10. What can I say. I was wrong.

heh well that's fortunate, cos I've got 5 bottles of this.

With a huge order from me
                      Mission failed.

Failure to receive phone signal = lack of order placed = above beers not procured.

Mr Prin - have you ever had bottled Cumberland Ale? I had an alleged bottle in a "restaurant" once and it resembled flat, pissy lager. I suspect they replaced the decent, creamy ale inside the bottle for flat, pissy lager.

Greene King - St. Edmunds Gold
I won’t lie I’m not a big fan of Greene King (though if you get it well served there IPA is very nice) and this beer isn’t going to convert me. Bland and unexciting. 5/10.

Wolf Brewery - Your Granny Wouldn’t Like It
I once had the happy privilege of drinking this from the cask in one of my favourite pubs (Coopers Tavern, Burton upon Trent) and its an awesome beer. Really - thats the only way to describe it. Awesome. This time I’m drinking from a bottle and its still very tasty. 9/10.

                            OOF

I'm in an advanced state of batteredness typing this.

                            Beers swilled tonight -

St Peter's Fruit Ale - Grapefruit, does exactly what it says on the tin, and WHHOOOOHOOHOOO medicine bottle-shape - 9/10
Ossett Excelsior - strikingly different to the above, a steady Eddy beer - 8/10
Old Shag - A great starter after chilli and chips - 8/10
Kelham Island Easy Rider - another pleasant beer to ease us into the night - 8/10
Saltaire Fuggles Ale - a real change of pace, a tangy bitter with pleasing afterstaste - 8.5 (I think)/10
Hogs Back Brewery TEA (traditional English ale) - another tangy bitter. I drank it with sediment like the hardcore mutha I am, and it gets 8/10 despite this.
Finished with a beer I can't remember the name of at all, but it was a very peculiar number. It actually tasted better with sediment. It had a grapefruit tang to it, and the sediment seemed to preserve that taste longer than VP's non-sediment effort. It made every swill tastier and more lasting. Help with name, VP? It's the last one in the book. 8/10

Red Hogg - Yes, Jenning's Cumberland Ale - one of the beers that loses its natural texture in a bottle and suffers because of it. Perfectly palatable to those who haven't had the cask original but a significant mark-down for those that have. A bit like Cameron's Ruby Red Strongarm in that respect.

Ah yes I remember now. Oof that was a sobering moment, battering into the door. I blame the sediment boys.
