If it was you, then you need to ask for a round closer to where you live!

My postie must have changed in the last yr or so, because the post turns up in good nick, & when he needs us to sign he's very polite & friendly & chatty.......for a young guy!
As long as I keep getting this kind of service then yes I agree that they deserve to be treated better by their bosses.

My postman is always courteous and polite- he leaves signed-for parcels with the neighbours next door as he knows that we trust them and he's rushed downstairs to catch me on my way out to work when he's had parcels to deliver on more than one occasion. Always has a kind word and a hello when I see him on my way to the bus stop, too. It'll be a shame if they let him go to get new people in on cheaper contracts.

Just had to deliver to half a dozen houses on my street cos the postman decided to just put them through our letter box instead. Is it that hard to match up two numbers? One of them had import duty to pay as well which he obviously didn't seem to care much for.

It is when you hire people who aren't fit for the job then don't train them properly, and who get questioned if they claim overtime when the job is too big, yeah, pretty normal.

When BR was privatised, the service was run down beforehand in order to get the reasons in to privatise - we need the investment. Spurious comparisons were then made to show how private companies could do better. I really do not believe that social provisions should be privatised - cherry picking private contracts is even worse. Of course the market will follow the cash but privatisation does not even follow two of the basics of business/management imho:
              economies of scale
              goal congruence

I get the feeling, with the drop in quality of the postal service, they are just trying to get to the point where people will say "can't get any worse" so that support reaches critical mass.

Seriously though... is training needed to tell someone what letters go in which letter box?

(in reference to my particular postie, not the P.O. as a whole)

Training is needed to do things efficiently.

Are those numbers a political compass score btw?

As a trainer, that sounds less about technical training and more about ethics. I'm sure Chris' postie knew where to post the stuff, he just couldn't be arsed.

Also suffer from this, along with 4pm deliveries, not great when you're waiting for Uni results.

Training is most certainly needed, since, until you are shown where doors are, and where roads are, you won't have a clue where you are going. Oh and for the record, Royal Mail have (in my time) employed someone who dislexic and also someone who couldn't read.

MegaMan, nobody wants 4pm delieveries, not you or us, complain about it. The service will not get better whilst the public accept the "service" they are recieving!
