My Zavvi ones I had to cancel and order elsewhere as they said they will still be using Royal Mail during the strikes. (There goes my bargain of Borderlands for ?30 rather than ?35 at ShopTo.)

Gameplay have just got me my copy of Brutal Legend. I suspect they'll be doing the same next week for Forza 3 for people who've ordered with them.
I guess the whole Game / Gameplay etc group have got together and either used their clout to press for a bit of leeway or they've weighed up the pros and cons of any sanctions and decided to send stuff out earlier than usual.
The current economic climate coupled with the postal strikes makes it a bit of a dire and unique situation.

Got a confirmation from GAME that my Fallout 3 GOTY has shipped today, altho I dont know when thats gonna turn up. Thought about ordering a 360 MW2 Edition console from GAME but I dont know if it'll be sent by other courier or if the strike will have well & truly blown over by then.
Is it true that we're being advised to post now for Xmas? Is it reallly gonna last that long?

Lord knows when my copy of Windows 7 will arrive (Curry's have confirmed they're shipping no earlier than the 21st.).

Mines on order from there too - I don't think they're bothering to make alternative arrangements for posting during the strike so I'm not holding my breath of getting it any time soon.
As far as I can see they haven't actually announced how long this first strike will last? I'm guessing they will today as they have to give a weeks notice of a definite strike.
edit:- `strike` (ho-ho) that. Play seem to be using couriers for some stuff as an order I put in yesterday for a router just arrived. Dunno if they'll extend this to things like software etc but seems they are making alternate arrangements too.Last edited by Spatial; 15-10-2009, 09:55.

GAME are doing express guaranteed 1 day delivery for £2.95 now. You can call them and get them to swap your orders over (however they will need to re-place the order with the prices you originally paid {if you used codes etc.} and create a new one for you).
However, they say the games won't be shipped until Thursday before release for this option.

Fairplay on GAME tho, my Fallout 3 GOTY was confirmed as posted yesterday & turned up this morning.
Flashpoint Dragon Rising turned up this morn too but was posted on Monday from shopto. The strange thing is that the recorded sticker attached looked different to previous recorded stickers. Maybe they were using a different mailing company like play.com are?

Might be an idea to put a sticky on the sales threads with the strike updates and warn sellers/buyers of potential delays.......... went to post a old phone to envirophone today , woman behind counter said they cannot guarantee it arriving there for up to 7 days and that was 1st class recorded.

More to the point, when I posted out something a few wks back & asked for it to go 1st class recorded I was asked "do you want it to get there for tomorrow?" to which I said "yes please". Then got told that it could take up to 3 days to get there 1st Class & if I wanted it to get there tomorrow I should use special delivery!! This was BEFORE the postal strike I might add.
What a cheek! So when did 1st class suddenly become a more expensive version of 2nd class then?

I'm not really sure why this strike is happening. Imo the CWU have done a poor job in clearly setting out the reasons for the strike.
They seem to acknowledge that jobs will have to go, but the main grievance seems to be that they want the Royal Mail to spell out exactly how the job losses are going to happen. I can see why that's a good thing, but is the lack of it a strong enough reason for strike action?
I can't see this going down well at all. We're just about climbing out of recession and it's coming up to Christmas. I think people can respect strike action if its clearly presented and it seems like a strong objective action - such as the workers who striked over those jobs going to non-UK workers. But I think the public and businesses are going to have little (if any) sympathy with this (and the Royal Mail know it).
