well central London post is still screwed, office just received a dribble of mostly junk mail, I'm still waiting on a recorded sent a week ago and several other fairly important documents.

getting very hacked off with this.

Royal Mail's top management have, in their infinite wisdom, decreed that staff may not work overtime to clear the backlog. Clearly it's going to take us a long time to clear it by just fitting in what we can during out regular hours.

Maybe they dont want workers striking just so you can get paid for overtime? (thats me being cynical btw)

can kind of see why, you can't really pay people overtime to clear a problem they've created in the first place.

don't the next round of dept specific walk outs kick off soon as well ?

Next week. No deliveries Tuesday, disruption for the whole week.

Quite right in princible, but it's just making things worse for everyone concerned because we cannot clear the mail full stop.

And since we're all two days down on our hours this week we'd be lucky if we could put in enough extra hours to make up a full wage packet, let alone break into the overtime pay zone.

Are you for real? You go on strike and then complain you dont have enough hours worked up to get overtime pay?

Seriously, you have my sympathy when it comes to being shafted over the pay, but statements like that ^ really do nothing for your cause.

edit: im done with this thread now. totally sickened.

Mate I don't think that is at ALL what he meant.

I think all he's pointing out is that the managers are telling us "you do not get overtime...you do not get the money back for YOUR strike" but even if you have to work your meal break, thats 40 minutes, most people have lost 32 hours so it's not even breaking the back. I can't speak for Matty but I'm pretty sure that Matty isn't saying what you think he is.

It's normal to claim an hours ish a day to get the job done, nothing to do with the strikes that, not at all.

Management are quite right to say no to overtime though, I can't disagree with that.

I can't really explain it very well, sorry.

You can get overtime, but it is for extra walk or half walk not sorting duty or finishing an hour overtime.

Management is correct. As I have worked full time over this week and 2 half walks (so far)

I am taking advantage with the situation as we can leave a lot earlier and no door to door which means it is working out for me and gain an hour sleep. But the backlog will take a while to clear. For PGR 4 I am keeping my order in local game store.

Anyone come across this argument in other forums? Somebody in another forum I read took it upon himself to start a thread just calling the postmen useless bastards because he didn't get his mail. I don't know whether it's worth explaining the situation or to just ignore it. I replied a couple of times but I think some people are just wankers incapable of understanding something bigger than themselves.

And there are stories painting postmen as big bad evil wolf ie a pathetic mom can't explain why the postman can't bring her birthday card to 2 years old daughter.

Everyone had 2 weeks noticed about the strike, so they should be aware of it.
