                Ok thanks for everyone's comments and helpful links but in all seriousness, would people here have thought to check the seating plan BEFORE buying tickets for row A for some show to see if there was another row in front?! Would you not just have assumed that row A is the front row? That's what I did - more fool me.

                Jim, I checked the seating plan after buying the tickets, just to see whereabouts in row A we were sitting. Don't get me wrong, I'm still stoked to be going but shall willfully ignore all the people in row AA - bastards!
