We should go the American route and have election dates fixed. I can't help but feel Labour are waiting for the polls to favour them better before announcing.

Legally I think the minimum time is six weeks, which means an announcement tomorrow. Unlikely but we've been receiving information that we would normally get just before an election is called. Eh, we'll see!

I think it will deffo be May as there is local elections that month. I hope it isn't then though, as our school is a polling station and I would then get two days off work!

I get the day off in May whatever, as it is local elections. So, if the general election is in March/April I will get that day off as well.

The woman I've been seeing for eight months - more or less since getting divorced - told me today what she did for a living. She's a police officer.

I'm desperately casting my mind back over the conversations we've had to try to remember if I've confessed to any crimes in Japan.

I live in Tokyo, she lives quite a way away, and we nearly always meet in Tokyo when she comes up here to visit. She told me she was a civil servant, which is strictly speaking true, I suppose, but I thought she shuffled papers in the town hall or something. I've never met her family - she doesn't want them pressuring her to get married, which they will do if she brings a boyfriend home.

Most of her previous boyfriends, on finding this out, have wanted to do her while she's wearing her uniform, which she hates. But after 8 months together, and meeting my parents in Dubai over Christmas, she decided to tell me.

As far as I can remember, the only crimes I've told her about are a spot of fly-tipping and the sausage I smuggled into the country for her from Berlin. Still worrying a little, though.
