          Connected up my parents new Dell PC yesterday, lovely 19" monitor, was amazed at the amount of crap they install on there before shipping.

          47 processes running ffs and shortcuts on desktop to sign up for Tiscali, BT, Orange, AOL and someone else I've forgotton. For a new system it took so long to start up and shut down .. until I got my hands on it.

          -----

          Useless fact for the day;

          (Allegedly) 61% of internet page hits are porn sites, knew the figure would be high, but 61% !

          -----

          And a pic that made me smile, come on people where are the jokes/funnies.

              You need to get you hands on my new Dell then too David.

              I was a little shocked at the amount of crap they installed too, did you stop the Dell network assistant? I wasn't sure if i could/should?

              My 20" WS monitor is amazing too, they do make nice screens.

                First thing Id do with a pre-built PC is to wipe and reinstall it. I had to install Nortons internet security for someone the other day (she paid 50 quid extra for it), nowhere could I find a way of doing a custom install, it installes SO much **** that was unneeded I was amazed. In use, the amount of nagging popups and reminders she gets is bewildering.

                      Alistair - yeah turn it off.

                      Kernow - but if they provided no ISP discs/shortcuts it would still be non-monopolistic - they are obviously paid lots of money to promote them.

                        firefox is free though, and if they provided no software at all you'd have to use MS's software by choice, for a web browser et cetera

                          There was a guy called 'Joe Pourno' at my TEFL course in Liverpool this weekend (top weekend btw).

                          Quite possibly the best name ever.

                            I was originally just talking about ISP's, not web browsers, however only IE is installed as far as I am aware.

                              What the **** is the deal with blister packaging? Surely it is against some guideline to package things in impenetrable plastic shells that guarantee a sliced hand or blunt scissors.

                                I always feel edgy when 'tearing' a blister pack open. Luckily I've yet to be injured from any ordeal.
