ummmm.....I think you mean their saxaphone player (Abi)! Yeah a new album would be creamy - have you seen them live? They're are fantastic!

It's all that Mark Ronson f*ck - thinking he's being all clever by getting someone else to sing an extremely recent song in a slightly different way - wow Mark, that's amazing!

        That's Mark Ronson too.
        Kept you waiting, huh?

Number 3 on there sounds like an imperative that Ronson should heed!

I get the feeling you like music Dan, the amount I know you go and watch live etc, have you actually listened to any of Mark Ronson's work apart from Valerie? If not, stop slating it, he's an extremely talented producer and most of the songs on Version are great (some are **** though, especially Pretty Green and that dire Robbie Williams version of Only One I Know. The album is a bit horn heavy but each song is completely new, it's not just straight covers.

You're right, I do like music - I listen to it a lot, I go to many gigs and I've been playing bass for about the last 17 years or so. The problem I have with Ronson is that I just don't like the way he's covering such recent songs. The best covers/samples (IMO) are those that take an old old song and make it new for the current generation. And I also believe that covers should be reserved for live performances. I've seen the Chilis covering Bowie's 'Suffragette City', Turin Brakes doing a live cover of 'Breaking the Girl' by the Chilis. Even Faith No more's version of 'Easy' by the Commodore's started life as part of FNM's live show (the record company got them into the studio to record it and then re-released The Real Thing with it tacked on at the end!).

I don't think that in this day and age it is really necessary to release an album full of covers of such recent songs. To me, it's just lazy (no matter how good they are), and if he is as a good a producer as you say he is, why is he not working on new material of his own - I'm sure he could do it. I appreciate what you are saying but I think we will just have to agree to disagree on this matter.

Staying in bed considering I've been up at 2am every day this week and working 12.5 hours stints. I'll get teh Enemy to bring me bacon samiches and dance like she works in the Spearmint Rhino too.

Indeed, the songs he's releasing as singles are literally a year old!

They all (what I've heard anyway) sound the same anyway, it just doesn't sound like someone with "talent" to me.

Lol, Ronson's beats >>> almost any currently active producer's.

You make good points Dan as I knew you would and I do agree that recent covers are a bit unnecessary. I'll happily agree to disagree too as we'll never see eye to eye on this (not that I think it's a great album by the way) but you clearly are basing your decisions on just hearing one song and have made your mind up by just seeing the names of the other songs.

His first album 'Here Comes The Fuzz' is also pretty good and you'll be glad to hear that that is all original material. You must know 'Ooh Wee'? So he is more than capable of doing original work.

Indeed, and he works with so many other artists he's got a well deserved rep as one of the best current producers.

I think you mean saxophone Umm, anyway, uhhh, I was just distracted by considering whether I should make some kind of lame "horn section" joke, and typed trumpet by mistake, honest

Not seen 'em live though, I'm crap at keeping track of when bands are touring near me and such like.

That'll be my musical nazi-ism taking over then! Music is so subjective, like most of the arts and so we can't all be expected to enjoy the same thing otherwise life would just be boring all the time!

Ah, yeah....I knew something didn't look right with 'saxaphone' but then again you mis-spelled it as 'trumpet'!

Oh and if you want to keep abreast of your fave bands goings-on, just sign up to their mailing list on their website. They'll then notify you of new albums, tours etc

                            And just for us dude:
