Do you know what model shape they are going for? The last Impreza I drove was that saloon STi with 4WD. As long as it's based on that it should be worth a look at least. From what i remember there was a lot of space in that car plus it was kitted out quite well. The 5 door hatch back looking impreza never did anything for me. I drove a semi automatic version which didn't help but there's just something about it that didn't say "look at me".

hmm, it seems to be based upon that STi Saloon I drove pictured below. I hope it is. It may be a cheaper alternative for my whining wife to look at.

A lighter and economical Subaru? Nahh stick with the petrol guzzlers!
My step Mum has the WRX STi, it looks pretty cool but the gold coloured wheels I have always found to be quite rank.

My car has been delayed until the end of august! I mean, seriously..... 8 months wait for a VW golf

8 months for a VW Golf? How can that be? I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer didn't just f@@k up big time on ordering it.

Our Golf Estate took about that time from ordering to delivery as well. At least the dealer was kind enough to give us a courtesy car for three months which allowed us to sell the old motor.

I picked up my new Škoda Fabia vRS on Thursday morning. Then promptly drove to Surrey, a seven hour drive, then left it in a field for four days! A diversion into north Wales on the way back to Scotland and it already has over 900 miles on the clock. Should be run in pretty soon at this rate.

I will post photos and impressions when I get a chance.

Is that the Skoda that Fifth Gear were using as their crew car? They did little updates on it during the last series. It seemed like a very nice estate car. a far cry from the crap in the 80's. Then again it's VW now isn't it or is Skoda now owns by BMW?

Do you need a golf? How about the cheaper, better (but not as much space) Scirrocco?

What engine are you getting? When I got mine there was a 5-6 month wait on the 1.4TSI engine - which is loads of fun though and well worth it!

I got lucky when I got mine as the dealer already had some coming in that they had ordered anticipating demand or whatever it is that they do, only downside to that was I couldn't choose the colour or any extras but the models they had coming in were just what I wanted anyway!

As it's a company car and I'm relatively Junior in my new job I only had a smallish selection of cars to choose from. Mainly Poorly specced 1series and Audi A3 as I HAVE to have a german brand, it also had to be diesel and 5 door so that totally ruled out having a scirocco (which I think are awesome)

The Golf was pretty crazy spec, Bluemotion tech (tax group B) DSG gearbox, Bluetooth, 6 cd changer , iPod connection DAB radio, cruise control, Automatic distance control etc etc. Full of gadgets and should be nicer and comfy to spend the 4-6 hours a day that I spend in my car.

                        Sounds great Boris!

I can vouch for the Golf in the comfort stakes, really don't mind being in mine at all. Stereo is great, and many of the other toys are good too.

Best thing about the Golf from my experience is just how smooth and quiet it is inside when you are driving it. Everyone that has been in mine has said how it's just so quiet compared to other cars they have been in.

Haven't seen Fifth Gear for a long time but I went for the five door hatch rather than the estate. It's basically the same car as the Polo GTi / SEAT Ibiza Cupra / Audi A1. Except with the no VAT deal it cost a lot less than Skodas VW group stablemates.
