    You must buy Drop7.

You won't need any other games after that.

P.S. Read my review of it.

Yeah, I bought ddp/galuda2 a while back hehe. This device isn't for gaming anyway I guess, although I will try those recommendations, cheers.

Totally agree the vast majority of stuff is very throw away only a complete nob like that guy from the gadget show would rate ios as a serious gaming platform.

I couldn't disagree more, the iOS is getting stronger all the time and in many areas out does the DS. Real Racing destroys any DS racing game while I could say the same about Modern Combat 2 in the FPS genre. The Cave titles are in a different league to any DS shooter too.

Yes, few games are as fleshed out as the better DS games are but in terms of what you're paying alot of them can be incredible value. I've had loads of 59p gems and even a fair few free games that have given me a fair few hours of enjoyment. If Plants Vs Zombies were on the DS/PSP they'd be around the £20 mark, not £1.79.

iPhone games done right don't have to rely on virtual controls. Just looking back through that list I put up and there are very few games there where virtual controls are needed. Infact, most of them are better on a touch screen than any control pad/button combo could be. I've tried stuff like GTA, PES and Rayman 2 and on screen controls just don't do anything for me, but games built for the system and not a console port are a different kettle of fish.

I liked Monkey Island 2 and how it was optimized for the iPad's touchscreen, it was awesome. I'll try those titles on the list though definitely.

I'm NOT an Apple fanboy. In fact I don't like the company at all. The iPhone under their set up is crippled. Far too many things that should be but are not. Thats why a jailbreak is a must. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that a IOS platform is now a very good gaming platform once you remove all the ****.

Dodonpachi Resurection blows away any other shooter on any other handheld and I've played a lot. The touch controls work perfectly. So well in fact that it feels second nature. Racing games are also another strong point on the IOS platform. If you use touch controls and not the stupid tilt the handset crap you'll really find some quality racers than handle and feel so well. There are just so many great games for it. Even Sonic 4 which uses a virtual joypad (which for the most part are crap) feels and controls well.

The best thing about the IOS though are the prices. My most expensive game cost me 900 yen on day of release and that was a major AAA title. You couldn't even buy the ****test of the **** on day of release on any other console for under 2800 yen in Japan. Then you have all the very cool FREE titles. Yep, FREE! Yesterday I downloaded the video Game Music Challenge and Low Grav' Racer for free. While not AAA titles they'll keep me entertained for a while at least.

Honestly, shift though all the **** and you'll find that the IOS is a very good gaming platform that looks and sounds very nice which is more than can be said for many DS games. Some of those look nk better or worse than SFC games.

One thing I will complain about though and thats the stupid keyboard to type with. The amount of times I've entered the wrong letter is just not acceptable.

I disagree, personaly I think only a clueless person would say that the iphone/ipod isnt a serious gaming platform when there are so many great games on it.

Yes there are alot of rubbish games released, but thats becuase there is somthing ridiclous like about 50 games released a day for the platform.

The fact is though that, as a few other people have posted, there are loads of quality games now and many better their counterparts on other handheld devices. Even the virtual dpad/sticks are being made to work well these days.

Just look at Modern Combat 2 and Gamelofts other recent output to see how far Iphone gaming has come.

I agree that the iPhone has come a long way, to say it isn't a viable gaming platform is a bit shortsighted in my opinion. It has nailed mainstream titles better than the Wii, outside of the Nintendo developed titles of course.

As a (rather hopeless) Cisco engineer, I hate it when people call it IOS though

It's probably a bit mean to totally disregard it but I've really fallen out of love with it as a platform. when I got my touch I couldn't put it down, but the cold hard reality that I was paying pennies for newsgrounds content or constantly fighting with poor virtual dpads has left a sour taste in my mouth.

It dosent help that websites like touch-arcade think every game they see has something positive to say about it, or that a lot of the recommendations on here are for very throw away stuff.
There are a few gems on the app store but there drowning in a sea off smelly smelly poo.

Same can be said for the DS. Far more **** on that than real games or at least here in Japan.

What I do is each day while taking a dump (yeah, you really wanted to know that ) I check out the latest releases to see if anything tickles my fancy. Mostly it's crap but at least once or twice a week I find a pure gem for free or very little money. I do agree that virtual D-pads are a load of crap though. Very rarely do they seem to feel right.

same can be said for every game machine going, they are all full of crap

I would say though that in terms of gameplay per £ the iphone offers me some of the best value out there, i never seem to spend more than £2-£3 a week
