Whats the situation with game trials/demos on the App store? A lot of games look interesting but being able to try them out before hand would be useful

They're up to the devs to provide but many have free versions to try.

Yep, download them via iTunes on your PC/MAC and then sync as you would to get your music on.

Has anybody bought the Giantbomb app? Reviews seem to suggest that the video quality isn't great, but other than that it seems like it's worth the £1.19.

The video quality isn't amazing but it loads up pretty quick.

The way I viewed was that I was going some way to give something back for all the podcasts of theirs that I listen to.

As far as games go, I find the app store confusing so try searching the following:
Lite, Free, iD, Sega, Namco, Capcom, EA, Ubisoft, Gameloft, Taito etc
