Been playing SF4 a little bit over lunch here with headphones in on my 3G. I have to admit it is rather bloody good.
Firstly the presentation is top-notch and it literally is a condensed port of the full game, albeit with a sparse amount of characters. What I've been most impressed with though is the controls are as good as I could ever hope they would be on a touch screen. I've got no complaints about the D-pad and both that and the buttons can be placed anywhere you see fit with transparency tweaked as well.
As a result I played for a while in stock layout and then pushed the dpad a bit closer to the left corner and spaced out the buttons a little. Dropped the transparency right now and my god it just makes it even better. Lots of screen real estate gained.
If there are any complaints they are few but to be expected:
- Backgrounds are ok, the animation is excellent though.
- Lack of characters. I would fully expect some character pack DLC on this?
- Bluetooth multiplayer only right now
- Buttons... you get one punch, one kick, focus and special and thats it so the move list is reduced as well but I find it doesnt really matter.
You can alter the command list to assisted where the special moves are easier to pull off but honestly either I am jammy or gifted as I was able to do a dragon punch on my very first attempt. It's there and it works, its just to get used to.
MP works well on bluetooth. I forced a mate in work to grab it as well and the few sessions we had were a real blast. If this gets online Wifi I am sold.
I icing on the cake is you can save your replays, something I always thought was missing on the home consoles but I hear that is in SSIV? Anyway not bad capcom, not bad at all... give us Wifi and another heap of characters and I'll stump up some more hard earned.
I now have a bus friendly version of SF4 in my pocket and that gives me a warm and fuzzy glow inside.

I, erm, have to eat my words here and agree with you nonny. I've had chance to play it now (only briefly as it was on someone else's iPhone 3G)... but yeah, blimey, it works. Its fast, presentation is slick, and more importantly its quite playable! I didn't have any troubles pulling off any of Ken's moves. I'm quite impressed!

Saw this over on Touch arcade, Zombie Infection by Gameloft, due out later this month. Is there anything they won't rip off!

I think 8/10 is spot-on. I've been playing it over the weekend and finished it with half the characters, just doing the dojo stuff as well to get into the controls.
It's definitely a massive surprise how well it controls but I still find myself missing some moves from time to time. I've pretty much got dragon punches down pat now though. I've also started shy'ing away from doing ultras by just tapping the ultra bar and been trying them in a match doing the proper inputs plus I still havent turned on the "easy" assisted controls so I am playing it like I would on a control pad on a console.
It really needs more characters though... that is the biggest omission as everyone has a favourite. Hopefully that will be DLC.

Well, Square Enix seem to be certainly losing the plot with their app store apps. Today's FFXIII larger than life image gallery app with a whole 24 images costs a massive 5.49
Their store description is quite hilarious too - 'Watch intricate design details come to life as you expand and explore gorgeous CG and character art, discovering hidden minutiae(wtf?) like eye colours, clothing materials and the brilliant luster of accessories'
Not on a ****ing Ipod screen you're not! This is theft!
