Yeah Forrest needed to change his punching style for the fight. His last two swings with silva leaning back and avoiding them with the second brushing his skin make for a brilliant slow mo replay though. If it hit it would have been a good test of Silva's chin!

I’d still like to see him fight Vitor Belfort who imo has an equally impressive knockout resume. He obviously has to get past Franklin first, but if he looks impressive - and seeing as Anderson only has 3 fights left - he should be the next guy inline.

they'd both sit back and wait for the others lead, which wouldn't come that often. 2 counter-punchers rarely makes for a great fight.

Regardless of how much he trains, I don't think Forrest could ever compete on the same level as Anderson standings. It’s probably best for him to focus on wrestling and bjj if he wants to challenge the likes of Machida and that’s if he decides to return. I read on Yahoo he’s taking the loss really badly; as soon as he got up he ran straight from the cage and out the arena.Last edited by Kit; 11-08-2009, 01:02.

I wonder what Griffin's mindset is like after the defeat (and the manner of it)?
He's obviously built himself up to win the fight, and in less than a few minutes, he's been put on his backside and he's waving his hand to admit defeat.
How does he come back from a loss like that (and this goes for all the fighters I guess), when you are well and truly made to look out of your depth against your opponent?
I know part of the answer is to train harder, but the manner of his defeat seemed to me that, no matter how long/hard he can train, Silva will always be a better fighter.
Any thoughts?

Big fan of Carwin’s. He always comes across as a top bloke when interviewed, and I believe he’s the only fighter in the UFC who still works a normal 9-5 job.

enjoyed 102, ESPN put it out in HD and just watched it with my morning coffee
there are some stunning KOs in there, Nate Marquardt in particular being impressive, I can't recall the names but wish the fight between the 2 big lump up and coming heavyweights went a bit longer.
the main event was solid enough, Nogueira looked fairly impressive but to me Coutoure is fighting mainly on guts now, not sure I'd like to see him continue at heavy as he may end up taking a few poundings, if he goes down to light heavy their are a few nasty quick beasts waiting there for him. time to call it a day I think.

Great card - possibly even better than UFC 100.
Of all the knockouts, the Marquardt one was definitely the pick of the bunch; it looked very similar to the mid-air KO Fedor executed on Arloski. The 7 second knockout record set by Dufee took me a bit by surprise, but after watching a few of the prelims I believe 102 might be remembered more for this:
Horrific.
Amazed Tuschscherer continued after that. While he was down they showed him puking into a bucket, and post fight he mentioned fading in and out of consciousness.

Because it's better to fight the best and have a less than stellar record on paper than to dodge fights like Fedor!
Couture, aka Captain America is still a hero, despite being outclassed by Nog. If Nog has a good gameplan and executes it like he did against Couture, then I think he might even be able to beat Brock!

but as a fan you want to see good fair match ups at the right time in their careers with both parties in with a shot.
Silva v Couture at the moment is a total mismatch, where is the fun in watching somebody who may be too brave for his own good taking a thumping in the hope of landing a hail mary shot ?
Nobody can doubt Couture's past but he is in the phase that Duran/Leonard/Hagler/Hearns were in the late 80s, they were all past their prime but could fight each other in an unofficial veterans league that still proved a box office draw, and more importantly were competitive bouts.
Silva v Couture isn't competitive to my mind.

The only fights out there for Randy at 205 are Mark Coleman (43) and Dan Henderson (40), and I see him losing both. The main problem for him against anyone younger is speed, as he won't be able to close the gap; it’s not difficult to imagine Thiago Silva or Machida circling indefinitely and picking him apart. I’d say if Randy insist on continuing he should stay at heavyweight, but even then I don’t see him beating anyone - well, maybe Kimbo. ;p

Nog would have a much better chance than Mir on the ground, though he’d definitely have to come up with a different strategy to get there; taking damage to give damage would be suicide.Last edited by Kit; 05-09-2009, 19:09.

Tree kicking montage ahoy!
Jean-Claude Van Damme to fight Somluck Kamsing in K-1
Actor Jean-Claude van Damme will fight Olympic gold-medalist boxer Somluck Kamsing in a K-1 muay thai match in March 2010.
This rumor was recently confirmed by Kamsing, who signed the contract for the fight on Sept. 4. The bout will take place in Las Vegas and will consist of five two-minute rounds, said Kamsing.
Van Damme has requested to bar the use of elbows during the fight because he is an actor and does not want his face to get cut or bruised, Kamsing told Siamsport.
Kamsing is a Thai boxer who won the featherweight gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
