Oops. That's not good. How was a non-admin user able to do that anyway? They can't on our network, though we do have a very meticulous set of securtiy-based group policies in effect.

Those flipping M&S adverts with Twiggy and that in them. They've well and truly jumped the shark now.

Still like the underwear bits obvo.

        HMV online...

In short, I ordered the rather nice Professor Layton Blu Ray boxset, which arrived damaged - not suprisingly because they thought 'adequate packing' would be a piece of cardboard wrapped around it.

Naturally I returned it as faulty, but had to pay return postage - they suggest you use a registered service incase it gets lost - and costing ?30 you wouldn't want it to!

Ending up costing me about ?5 to return it, so I called them to get this refunded too (as you would). Explained the situation to the girl on the phone and she says to me:

'Oh you should have put the receipt for the return postage in with the parcel when you posted it back'

Ok then! Pointed out the glaringly obvious problem with this suggestion, which she didn't like and surprise surprise she then couldn't help me as the system was down. Meaning another call back and thankfully spoke to someone non retarded who refunded the costs straight away!

        Note to online retailers:
Please learn to pack high value, fragile items properly!
Don't think up stupid return policy ideas
        Don't employ lazy idiots!

        And I'm calm

Two hours later and it was finally sorted. Guess how:

          It went something like this:

The connection I disabled was the connection to the hotel LAN. Luckily the server is supported by Hilton support something-or-other so I gave them a call to sort it out. Cue immense embarrassment when they asked the inevitable "how did it happen, sir?" and having to reply that I did that. Anyway, they weren't able to do connect initially but they managed to log in using the managed port. So Terminal Server was all sorted. But then some other server that the staff then use once inside Terminal Server wouldn't work so I had to call them again. They couldn't do it for some reason or other so I had to get one of the room cleaning department ladies (seriously) to log in with her account

She did that but it looked like it froze on the 'applying settings' window so I performed my I.T. mantra - Ctrl+Alt+Delete - which I usually do for no apparent reason(or if I forget that Task Manager's accessed through Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and guess what it did? It automatically locked the server and she had to log back in! But, of course, being from the cleaning department, she'd wicked off to sort some rooms out in the meantime. Finally, when she got back, I got her to log back in and then EVERYTHING WAS OK IN THE WORLD.

My dad laughed at me when I told him what happened

          New irk: Me

Massive apples. I've been eating this apple for 5 minutes and I'm only halfway through it and to be honest I've had as much as I want. I reckon this one must be 3 of my 5-a-day.

Soft apples. I like my apples to be crunchy! No excuse for a soft granny smith.

Also slightly irksome is using Apple juice as filler in "100% fruit smoothies". I'd rather them just add sugar and water. It would have the same calories and would mean my "banana and strawberry" smoothie tasted of banana and strawberries, not of the 50% apple juice.

Lack of instruction manual proofreading and software testing.
Thrustmaster do excellent hardware but the coding manual for the Warthog HOTAS is simply atrocious and the TARGET GUI program that should be used to map buttons to specific functions without spending days to learn a new HOTAS programming language, does not even work.
The net result is 350£ of well-built metal laying unused on my desk.
                      Great work Thrustmaster QA.

Actually instructions in general are an irk of mine. Especially ones that just rely on diagrams but they're totally abstract - Ikea, I'm looking in your direction. Everyone should look to Lego for their visual instructions. You just can't build Lego incorrectly because the instructions actually work.

People who deride something entirely simply because they don't know what it is.

For example, the guy here who choses to take pot-shots at the forthcoming AKB48 PSP game. It's just so strange for him that there might be people like myself who actually like AKB48, and are interested in this game. He obviously doesn't have to like it, but it's pretty clear that the guy himself knows full well that he doesn't know what it is - why the default piss-take?

I'm the same, though green apples are my favourite. There's nothing worse than a soft, yellow apple.

Green, firm, crunchy and just ripe is how I like 'em...

Another for crunchy apples here, I like them like rocks. If you can't put a window out with it then it's no good.

If I bite an apple/pear and it's soft it goes straight in the bin. Texture is probably more important than taste for apples as far as I'm concerned. Always go for Braeburns (Usually from Morrisons, they seem to be better) as they seem to be the most consistently crunchy.
