irk of mine is when some people say the same couple of words in almost every sentence such as "you know"

David Beckham is the king of 'you know's. I swear I counted 43 of them in a post England match interview once

73 bus rides are loads of fun if you end up sitting near one of these pretentious Islington women that all sound the same. Every other word is "actually" or "literally".

It depends. Some people do it because they're thick, but for most people it's just a quirk to allow them more time to think so they can work out what they want to say or how to effectively say it. It's not a conscious thing, just a subconscious way to slow speech down.

Same thing as going 'erm' a lot (or 'eh-to' if you're Japanese). Just social convention to show that while you're struggling to think of the next thing to say, you're not actually giving up your 'turn' in the conversation. When I'm actually talking to someone I never notice it, but it's definitely more apparenent when you're just listening to someone.

So yeah, I've been compared to a racist, sexist colonialist by ultra left-wing friends of an ultra left-wing friend for arguing that the rioting has been largely fuelled by greed, materialism and a misplaced sense of entitlement. Nice. I'm mostly left-wing myself but I'm not stupid enough to ignore the bloody obvious.

Loaves of Warburtons Toastie have an odd number of slices. This needs to change.

                Grr!

Looking for a video on you tube of a game and the suggestion as you are typing revealing a major plot spoiler.

It's not about OCD! Sandwiches take two slices of bread to make, having an uneven number of slices in a loaf is a total nonsense

This could go in either thread, irk or smile.

I have absolutely no problem with odd slices.

                            Why?

Because I always have beans/spaghetti on three toasts.

One of the things that irk me is the term "award winning". At times so vague, its so difficult to find out what the award was that was won.

One of my old employers (who were massive cowboys) started putting on their website that they were "award winning". All this meant was the building they occupied with other companies, one of the managers they were in league with won an award.

For example, Battlefield 3 already has "award winning" tag on it and its not even finished! WTF! (Stupid E3 awards)

Youtube. "Naughty boys in nasty schools". Thought it was quaint the first few times, now gives me the rage.
