I almost got into Glee, based purely on the clips of Jane Lynch I was shown, but then I found out what it's actually about

BBC News RSS feed: "Police hit out at 'Supercop' plan"
Sounds cool. Like Robocop or something?

"UK police chiefs have reacted sceptically to plans for US "supercop" Bill Bratton to advise the government."
          Oh......

I don't really look at news much but I click the rss dropdown every now and then to remind me why I don't. It's just so depressing. 29/32 stories were about miserable topics (war/death/murders being sentenced/fear). The other 3 were too banal to be taken seriously enough to click (e.g. "Police set bull to lure runaway cow"). Why don't they make any effort on the good news stories?

I had to go on a news blackout for several years because it would seriously depress me. I also found the stories invariably got worse the more you looked into them, like if you went looking for what other international sources were reporting too, especially around the Iraq war time. It's not just all the trauma and hideous things happening that got to me, it's that I genuinely believe we're all capable of so much more and we're not even close to realising that potential. But yeah, the news is usually pretty miserable.

That said, when I look at the other side (mindless distractions like Glee) I think it's imperative to know what is wrong with the world or else we can't make it better. While shunning the world's ills is far healthier psychologically, probably not better for the world in general.

I watched an episode of Glee. I wanted to gouge my eyeballs out with a teaspoon afterwards. Horrid nonsense of the worst type, and to make matters worse they regularly mess up good songs rendering them into unlistenable camp kids music.

The thing that bugged me about Glee was the autotune. And the kids. And the failed humour. And that main teacher guy. And most of the other stuff.

i enjoyed that singing in the rain thing.....

irk of mine is why i buy something and go for the cheaper version of something....only to realise later that perhaps i should have spent more money on a better item

irk of my dads is the amount of electric items that go wrong very soon after warranty has run out

I'm pretty sure my old Sony Vaio had some sort of self-destruct countdown. Motherboard type thing or whatever it is makes computers work (yeah, I'm a technical wiz) died the week after the warranty ran out. Man, that was an awful, awful laptop.

I did this recently, but fortunately it turned out the product was missing a feature the shop had said it had so I returned it and got the better version. Very pleased I have the better one now!

My debug PS2 failed to load Policenauts after many successful attempts. I tried a few other games and they were all fine so I've decided that burning it at 8x speed is too much for a PS1 game. Seems my burner can only go as low as 4x though.

We'll see if it works in time, I thought my PS2 laser was dead or something for a minute though.

Mine would only get as far as the PS1 logo before dropping away to a blank, black screen with the patched version. Irritating!

                            Odd people.
Mercedes AMG massive thing overtook me in a 30 zone over double-white line (I was doing 30). Road then opens up onto nice sweeping 60mph section for a few miles. I speed up and unexpectedly I've suddenly caught up with odd Merc guy, now doing 45-50. I'm thinking he's about to turn off or something, so hang back, but no.... He's just happy doing that speed. Which is fine, but why on earth risk overtaking earlier as if in a masssive rush, in a very unsafe place but then not keep a decent pace in the much safer wide open derestricted zone? Mentalist. I wasn't in the Impreza so I didn't bother trying for an overtake.

A couple of months ago: "We absolutely must remove this import feature that users can use to save massive amounts of time!"

Today : "We absolutely must restore that import tool because users want to use it even though we redesigned the UI so there's no place to put it and it must take into account the new organisation structure that has come into place since then"

Time it would've taken to leave it in and update it when doing the data structure development: 1-2 hours.

Time to remove it, reinstate it, recode it after that development has been done : solid days coding + additional testing.

Getting fed up of them deciding on major changes on a whim and randomly removing or disabling useful features because it doesn't go with how THEY want users to use the system (as opposed to how users will actually want to use it).

You actually removed the code? I hardly ever do then when removing a feature, I just 'disable'.
