I imagine there isn't a great deal they'll do for the ipad in the next refresh. Resolution bump is probably the most obvious thing they can do.

Other than that, price reductions and more carrier deals.

Yeah you're probably right. And, actually, I would have thought a res bump is fairly unlikely given that it will be only the 2nd generation. Still, a capacity bump, lighter form and reduced outer bevel would be nice. As there are likely to be some improvements, I'll wait and see what comes out of the next one but my interest has definitely increased since it was released.

I think the new iPad will look identical, save for a front camera. There won't be a res bump for some considerable time I feel.

reduced outer bevel would be a pain as its what I hold it by, you can't have the whole screen touch sensitive.

its so well formed for a first go improvment will only be incremental rather than revolutionary.

          camera is a safe bet.

I think we will see a speed bump to maybe 1.2GHz, at least the same 512MB of RAM as the iPhone 4, a camera and the rear of the enclosure made from that fancy new material Apple have dibs on for the CE sector.

I think having half the ram of iPhone 4 was a mistake in teh first place considering the size of the device, as long as they don't start bringing out apps that run significantly better on a new model im more than happy....gotta be 6 months off a new one surely anyway.

The bezel will remain as large as it it. Any smaller and the iPad would be hard to hold. I wouldn't expect a design overhaul next rev.

                Nah, rev 3 for that.

Picked up Dark Break for an expensive £4.99, it's like panzer dragoon with anime babes and wicked city setting. Good graphics, decent music, bit stuttery, recommended.

I'm really on the fence about getting an ipad.. I've got an iPhone 3GS which I love, so it seems a fairly safe bet that i'd like the ipad but I've heard that the next revision is due in spring.. Anybody care to help sway me into the purchase?

I'd say the most obvious improvement would be the processor, most of the upperend market has been Cortex A8/Snapdragon based for a while (including the Iphone 3GS/4/Ipad) but now there should be a big performance improvement with the next generation of processors available. Tegra 2 is finally shipping which packs two Cortex A9 processors, each of which is faster than the older Cortex A8 processor:

ARM announced two extensions to its instruction set to allow both virtualization and big address help that is physical.

Similarly Qualcomm aren't sitting on their hands with their silicon either and have released their own roadmap showing predictably higher clocked multicore designs.

Apple probably won't sacrifice battery life for a dual core processor. There is a good reason for all that GPGPU stuff they have been working on.

I'd say you can either wait ~6 months and pay probably slightly higher than current RRP for a better model, or get one now for a bit less than RRP (if you shop around).

So.. where's the slightly lower prices?

Or, does anyone living in the U.S want to buy me one and ship it over?

It's all over news outlets today talk of front & back camera's, better screen (?) and usb port.....bbc reporting first 3 months of 2010 for iPad 2 0_o.

I doubt that Apple will increase the price with the next gen iPad, they don't have a history of doing that. If anything the entry level will probably be lower in price.

I also don't think it'll be six months, probably more like three to four considering the iPhone dominates June/July and the original iPad was also launched in the spring. I wouldn't buy one now, rev2 Apple products always feel like the way the first should have been
