Women are set to pay higher car insurance premiums and men will get smaller pensions following a European Court of Justice ruling.

No more Sheila's Wheels! Should mean a reduction in insurance premiums for men too.

Nice to see equality laws swing both ways for a change.

Seems a bit daft though. Insurance is based on risk. It's a fact that women are proven lower risk. It's not discrimination. Discrimination would be "women are cleverer than men". Unproven (although probably true).

there are several things regarding work toilets that can bring a smile to my face, building to the best they are :-
                        • a free spot at a urinal where you don't have to rub shoulders
                        • finding a stench free trap
                        • when deciding to go 'posh' and have a wee in a cubicle discovering the seat 'pre lifted', meaning you don't have to touch it
                        • discovering todays newspaper in decent condition in a trap (metro or city am will do but a paid for one is better)
                        • discovering a freshly cleaned trap with the bleach still in the bowl is the work toilet equivalent of virgin snow powder skiing and can't be beaten.

Why then does car insurance not consider race? Race has a notable effect on how likely you are to be a victim of crime and I'd be surprised if there isn't a notable difference in how much it costs to ensure vehicles.

Because it's considered utterly unacceptable and would be slapped down by the courts at every level.

Being discriminatory against men however is seen as acceptable and it took the highest possible court until someone could say it wasn't.

I'm delighted to hear the sexist insurance policies are being banned.

Yes, insurance is based on risk - but gender (actually NOT gender - but sex is what the companies were basing it on) is far too crude a way to measure that. Why should I pay for the boy racers just because we share the same genitalia?

Never heard this one before, how is it exactly a factor?
