Where is Charlie? Oh noes, he's going too.

But Seriously. I've come to the realisation this place ain't for me. The discussion about whether the word rapist is offensive or not is a lot more interesting, rewarding and useful than knowing what the members here do to make money, and yet it was fobidden, and that to my drug-addled mind is crazy because when we understand where people are coming from then we don't get upset over the triviality of mere words posted on a screen by strangers, and even if we don't agree with them we can at least accept their position and point of view.

This is a great place for videogame discussion, I can't fault it on that, but it's a little bit too uptight is some regards, too many rules, too many cans and cannots that stem creative and free flowing discussion, that hinder the display of colourful characters. I have no idea how to run a website (maybe strict rules are required to ensure mayhem doesn't ensure or to appease advertisers or draw a greater number of members? I really don't know) but I do know I can't really be myself on here anymore without the tedium of regularly having to explain or defend myself or my position and so the time has come to depart.

But it's no big deal. No need to blow any trumpets or anything, no need to have a little collection for me, or leaving party, haha. Things change. people change. And there we go. I'll still read the site ocassionally so feel free to slag me off or write posts comparing it to the self-exile of a great God. Or you can think who cares, he was a prick anyway. The choice is yours.

lol, bye Charlie. Your posts remind me of an old friend who had an extremely philosophical outlook on life so I used to quite enjoy them, he was also in to Goa trance too

Do you really have to stop posting here? Forums can be really time consuming, depending on the type of personality someone has though, and that time could be used more productively I guess.

I agree with this. Some words are holy to some, but not others. People should be tolerant both ways. As long as something isn't said with the intent of hurting somebody, I don't feel the recipient has any cause for being upset at the person saying it. Even so I too dislike shutting down discussions because some of the participants has strong feelings regarding the subject matter. I think that these situations are the ones most likely to yield unique outcomes. Yet we never get to see a resolution because of said restrictions. No matter ones stand on the use of words, nobody should be so narrow minded as to not even let the topic be discussed.

I really wanted to embed a video from the Seinfeld episode The Postponement, where George and Jerry discuss how subjects should resolve on their own momentum. Couldn't find one, so a quote will have to do:

GEORGE: Yeah. Not only that, this is what she said to me, "Can we change the subject?"
JERRY: See, now that I don't care for.
GEORGE: Right. I mean, we're on a subject. Why does it have to be changed?
JERRY: It should resolve of its own volition.
GEORGE: That's exactly what I said, except I used the word "momentum".
            JERRY: Momentum - same thing.

TL/DR: While I disagree with much of what you say Charlie, I still find the sheer width of your opinions to be very interesting and an important contribution to the forum. Therefore I must humbly ask that you stay.

Charlie, I'd urge to reconsider. Maybe take the weekend without posting and come back all fresh on Monday or something. It would be a shame for another good poster to leave.

Try rllmuk. In fact, try both here and rllmuk at the same time. They are the yin and yang of gaming forums. Each will fill the hole the other leaves in your GAMING SOUL.

People should reconsider all the, "this my last post, so goodbye" histrionics. You want to leave, just leave, last time I checked there wasn't a notice period you had to serve.

There is, you've clearly not read the T&Cs. Bordersdown has a 60 day notice period, but also offers comprehensive private medical insurance, a generous final salary pension scheme, a subsidised canteen and off street parking in a secure area.

Charlie needs to lighten up a tad. He said something that was not ideal and got a few moans, deal with it and keep posting because it is often entertaining and something interesting.

                          Meant to be a compliment!

Yes, I'd like Charlie to stay too and, Kieran, I guess the main reason people post leaving posts is that they'd like the opportunity to be talked out of it. I contemplated leaving many years ago (during the Reign Of Terror) and I too would have posted a leaving post for the same reason. Because, ultimately, I didn't want to leave. I was just fed up with certain things at the time (things now long gone and from a different era).

Eventually I figured, it's a message board. Take the good (and it there is loads of good), ignore the bad (the serenity that the ignore function brings is truly wonderful and has been life-changing for me) and be okay with the rules of the house. Sure, we make the community but we are also guests here. And knowing that, not everything needs to be said or posted and if something was but probably shouldn't have been or others deem it inappropriate then fair enough. We can be wrong sometimes and we can be right other times. But even when we're right, the world doesn't have to know it. That only serves the ego.

So stay Charlie. I like your presence.

You can find these tips and more in my upcoming book - The Zen of Internet Trollz (or what I learned posting ****e on the interweb).

Can I suggest you instead start a new topic about the usage of certain sensitive words? The discussion didn't fit in the topic.
