The best way to stop the old bulbs blowing is to leave them on. It's the constant heat cycling that causes the metal fatigue to failure. There's a lightbulb in some firestation with their own backup generators that has allegedly been on since the fifties. Or since the dinosaurs or something.

Stuffs up the planet though. Although you could sign up at ecotricity and feel much better about just leaving them on all the time. And get both you and me some wine at the same time.

Or switch to LED bulbs. Or you can get "sunlight" a-like natural bulbs. My dad has one in a reading light and it's very impressive.

These guys have old style bulbs still: http://www.lightbulbs-direct.com

They take so long to fire up it's just plain annoying.

I now have to plan my poo's in advance so that the bulb is at a brightness that's suitable for reading...no sudden dumps for me anymore I need at least 10 minutes notice these days

You must have really old ones, new ones are pretty good.

I work at Homebase and everyone shares your sentiment until I give them a demo. lol

We sell regular bulbs too but are phasing them out, only have 40w ones at the moment I think.

Tried ringing them but the woman on the phone gave me a funny story about someone calling me back - why exactly? The phone was answered, why is it you can't answer my questions?!

Anyone got any other sources, I've left this so late and now I'm out of bulbs. Well, out of spares.

erm, it's an online shop dude, they were probably wondering why on earth you were phoning them. I use them for all my bulbs. Just try the "add to basket" button and then check out and they arrive at your house. It's amazing. There's a man that hands them to you at your door. Try it.
