the police have very little punch nowadays in the UK. A capital city whose police force just stands there, whilst property in damaged, shops are looted and the youth rampage through the city like a hoard of zombies - government afraid of 'upsetting' people by using force whilst the city burns; its pathetic.

no bite, no teeth - all brought around by lack of strategy and appeasement to a cotton wool society, who is more concerned about pussy-footing around these people than actually trying to deter them from this sort of behaviour.

same thing happened in Northern Ireland (and still does).

in many other countries they would be shot.

its nothing to do with oppression - this was an organised riot of large proportions - not a political protest about lack of education or poor housing conditions

last night the police did very little to stop what was going on - there was no deterent whatsoever for people to return to their homes and stop the looting. This creates opportunism. They know they will get away with it and will continue to, until the police regain the authority and upper hand of the situation (which will not be done by standing watching them) - a total disgrace

What really sickens me is the slow reaction to all of this from the Police and Government. Surely this **** should have been nipped in the bud straight off, instead of getting to where it is now. Also they still claim they don't need water cannons, even though they can't contain the mayhem. Idiotic.

they have every opportunity for a stake in it as much as the next person - a free education, free training, opportunity to start up a business, a free health service - i was about to say the right to police protection, but after what i saw last night, it would be laughable to do so.
