The police have got the power, but they're just choosing not to use it because of the negative press they get every time they **** up policing a protest. This isn't a protest any more though, and it's entirely mental that they're not doing anything. Maybe they're just waiting for Boris to come home and tell them to move in.

I bet if some shop owner took a baseball bat to a rioter he'd be beaten and in the back of a police van in seconds so the looters can get on with their looting without any interruption.

Well that's the point isn't it, what can they do? I'm sure each officer out there is terrified that if they are forced to hit someone with a baton they may end up in prison for it, hence all this standing at the cordon and watching. The kids out there know they can't be touched, hence why they feel fine smashing up their local shop withing 30ft of the Police.

How is it outside for you guys near all the riots at the moment?
It's kind of a sad world we live in where the police are too scared to take any active action. Don't the police have access to tasers and rubber bullets?
