I must admit, I too had a bit of difficulty getting the box apart and I was not going to rip into like some tech starved neanderthal! I got it apart in the end (obviously)

ebuyer website is really confusing - depending on which page you go on you get a different "available from" date.

I emailed their support desk and got a quick response saying that anyone who ordered before 9am 16th July (Monday) will receive it by Friday.

I ordered mine at 8am on Monday, so fingers crossed

          Ooooh dear:

Flaws with Asus-built touchscreen affecting a number of people, though no detail available about what proportion. Problems on accessing Google's customer service have frustrated others. By Charles Arthur

Looks like it was a rush job?

Yeah, there was a hint of brown pants in the run-up to mine arriving last week after keeping tabs on the problems that some people have been having.

Thankfully my unit seems flawless - barely noticeable light-bleed, a perfectly flush screen and no issues with touch recognition that I've noticed so far.

Still haven't got mine despite being promised by ebuyer I'd have it by Friday. Apparently now expected on Thursday 26th, and the way my order is going I suspect I'll have one of the faulty ones!

Thinking of getting one of these for xmas. Anyone recommend it or are there or going to be better options for the same price?

Had a go on two of these as both my brothers have one my younger brothers is fine. My older brothers nexus has the screen lifting issue where it's not flush with the housing on the left side and moves slightly when you press on it. I love new gadgets and was very jealous despite having an iPad 2 as this is fresh and new, but the build quality just doesn't seem to be there yet with this I would avoid or look at other options like a kindle fire hd or if rumours turn out to be true their could be an iPad mini showing up soon.

It's pretty much the best bang for your buck at the moment. Samsung are the big hitters these days so I'm definitely going to get one at some point as it will be solid as a reference development device for the next couple of years. I believe around Christmas Google's exclusivity on the hardware design will run out though meaning Samsung will probably start shipping better devices based on the design, but then they will cost more.

Not for the same price but the new ASUS Transformer Infinity is probably the best tablet on the market right now. $500 is a little steep for me, plus my TF100 is still chugging along quite happily.

My n7 came direct from Google and the build quality is flawless.

Hmm - that's not so good as I've just ordered from eBuyer with them showing plenty of stock. Did you get it okay in the end Pete?

I've been umming and erring about getting a tablet and have bottled at the last minute at checkout a few times now. Finally bit the bullet this evening and completed.

I suspect it might be another gadget that gathers dust - tbh, I really like having a lappy with a nice big screen.

It's funny you say that but I've not been back to my 10.1" tablet since getting my n7, and now it just seems too big.

I simply don't know until I get the device. My evening laptop use is generally web browsing, but, I have previously purchased a 7" Eee PC from way back when which was mightily frustrating to use due to its size and resolution. I ended up plugging in a big monitor and a proper USB keyboard and mouse pretty much negating the point. It gathers dust now and has done for a while.

I like the idea of the tablet, I'm just not completely convinced I'll use it in preference to my laptop.

This is the issue with Android and IOS tablets ... I have had two Android ones in so many years and have just ended up not using them because they can't 'do' everything that I want them to do.

Windows 8 tablet is where its at as far as I am concerned, best of both worlds, so I will certainly be getting one of those at some point.
