Coping with change. How do you guys get on?

Awfully. Moving out of houses is the worst one for me. Even moving out of a shoebox flat with a crap landlord, into my own flat was particularly painful. Changing every year at Uni was tough, too.

What's the significance of the Duck Phillips avatar anyway?

Well we were watching Mad Men and, when the show started picking up steam, a few of us changed to Mad Men avatars. Brats was Roger, Capcom Suicide is still Don. I chose Duck. I really like Duck, he was a good guy. I had the avatar long enough that now people wouldn't recognise me if I changed it. I'm beginning to think that's how I look.

Gf got invited to an Hermes party tonight so I'm going along as well. It'll be quite formal and she's worried I won't be dressed up enough. She actually asked me not to wear jeans. I'm trying with all this fashion stuff, I really am, but even I wouldn't wear jeans to this. Problem is I've lost loads of weight this past year and didn't buy new shirts so the ones I have are quite big. Worried I'll embarrass her. Not worried about the embarrassment so much as the inevitable 'discussion' afterwards. She pointed out yesterday that I didn't even understand the difference between Oxford and Derby shoes. I blame her English of course because I looked it up today and understood.

Tomorrow night is a Cartier party which is apparently a lot more formal and I'll probably bow out of it, not least because it sounds like I'll be stopped at the door, also a mate wants to see Iron Man 3 on Friday and I need my energy. Waking up at 6 is something I'm still getting used to.

Far from it. She's the best thing that's happened to me and that's not an exaggeration. We just come from vastly different worlds and sometimes attach importance to different things. She's rich and has had everything bought for her so can't understand why I won't spend lots on clothes or be prepared for stuff like this.

Really, it wouldn't matter if I wasn't going, and it's not like she normally expects me in a suit for dinner or whatever.

I knew what I was getting into but I'm here in Japan and all my cool clothes(plus plenty of shops catering to my size) are back in London.
