See, I'm a cheese fan, then I just have them warmed up, but I do understand the necessity for the possible addition of jam or other toppings. So let's say plain for the first batch, then mature cheddar for the second.

I asked for a "biscuit" in america and they brought me a scone with jam and cream. (That was actually a win as far as I was concerned).

In Red Lobster here they give you a basket of warm scones for free with the menu. FOR FREE.

I remember the first time I went to America and being perplexed when I saw "Sausage and Egg Biscuit" on the breakfast menu at a restaurant. Two countries separated by a common language and all that.

              Can anyone defend THIS?

I could not. What I also COULD NOT DEFEND is anyone pronouncing it scone as in own. It's scone as in gone.

edit: the OED lists both pronunciations. This is INDEFENSIBLE!

But what a way to go.

Tiny scraping of butter perhaps, but not a SLICE. You can't DEFEND that.

My immediate family all say sCONe but my dad's parents always said sCONE.

My god you are savages in Canada if you can't taste more butter than scone then something is wrong. I think i may be the super minority on that one hehe

A small amount of butter topped with a dairy's worth of clotted cream. Proper clotted cream with the crusty bits on it. And a thick layer of fruity jam of course.

I could really go for a cream tea right about now.

For me, food comes in just a few forms:

                            1) A platform for butter.
                            2) A platform for cream.
                            3) A platform for salt and vinegar.

Scones are great because they fulfill two of those.

                                Haha yes!

                                1. Cheese scone (warm!) with a slab of butter
                                2. Macchiato (ok not really cream but frothy milk)
                                3. CHIPS!
