I feel somewhat fortunate, there's only one fish & chip place near me, but it was a national finalist in 2013 for best chippie in the UK. So it's not bad in general... cod is nearly always very moist still inside the batter, and you certainly get plenty of chips for your money!

My place does. At least they do also have a large sign up on the wall stating they use beef dripping for frying if anyone does object in general, at least they know in advance.

Pay day...and it's 8 hours late. Already made it quite clear I'm not working tonight without being paid.

            I love these

I have borne witness in the past to 'Headmasters' and the odd 'Hair Razers', which doesn't really work at all because they've spelt 'razor' as in 'we razed the village to the ground and killed all the children'.

Finally came in, 9 hours late. Dubious.

Wow, wasn't expecting all the fish n' chip based tomfoolery...and the resultant, tangential 'bad barber puns'. Hehe...superb.

I think we're a little backwards/old skool in Yorkshire but there are plenty of ace little fisheries out in the smaller towns but the closer you get to cities, they tend to degenerate into that homogenized fast-foody type of dreck. I live 5 mins from Leeds and it's sadly all 'hard chip' establishments these days....but then oh god, you got Stan's...other side of Leeds to me though, bah, but THAT's what I'm talking about, they lush-o-rama from there!!!!

Cost-wise, twice and a cake cost us ?10.30 yesterday, kind of average for these parts.

Twice and a cake? What's that all about? Do you mean to say you got 2 large cod and chips plus a fishcake for ten quid? If so, good going.

Yeah, that was the cost, I'm intrigued by nationwide prices...seems pricier down south. You can even get good uns for slightly cheaper if you venture out into the villages, staple diet in some areas! That cake was minging though, basically a large chip in batter, with a few wispy strands of fish.

You're looking at a tenner for a single large cod and chips on its own in London (and it's crap). You're better off with fried chicken pretty much every time.

Only places I personally know for decent fish and chips are at the seaside.

                          can of ginger beer/vimto
                          curry sauce
                          sausage

                            ?6!!
You get that for nearer ?2 up here in Brum!

But then there is a takeaway every 9yards here sadly.

It's about ?5.50 for a small cod and chips at my local.

That is pricey, would be about ?4.80 my way and that seems expensive to me.
Chip shop sausages this way are rank, batter is lovely but the actual sausage is not great at all.
