So, now some time has passed:
04 Jan - 218,724
05 Jan - 194,747
News breaks that from 11 Jan positive PCR tests will no longer be required
06 Jan - 179,756
07 Jan - 178,250
08 Jan - 146,390
09 Jan - 141,472
10 Jan - 142,224
Postive PCR test no longer required
11 Jan - 120,821
12 Jan - 129,587
13 Jan - 109,133
14 Jan - 99,652
15 Jan - 81,713
16 Jan - 75,041
17 Jan - 84,429
18 Jan - 94,432
19 Jan - 108,069
So every time the Tories make a move to undermine Test and Trace the figures fall off by up to as much as 50%. It's beyond disgusting that the media has utterly failed to hold them remotely to account for it and the other Governments have lap dogged up to the 'follow the science but actually just remove effort too' approach the Tories are leading on. Then you get to when it bottoms out after PCR is gutted and the trend seems to be giving early signs of heading up which would suggest new cases are actually still on the rise, they just are being ignored because every tom, dick and harry is being encouraged not to confirm their illness via an officially recorded method.

The ONS figures will give a true indication due to how they're done, but they give a retrospective view - it maybe those figures are not massively out we won't truly know until the ONS ones are available. The fall off doesn't look totally unreasonable, were they suddenly 50%+ different that would paint a different picture.Last edited by MartyG; 20-01-2022, 16:50.

William Wragg, the Conservative Chair of the Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee has accused the Chief Whips of blackmail
I mean this is literally the whole premise of the show The Thick of It, you watch one of these people do their thing.
"If you don't vote the way we want, maybe it takes longer for Nissan to get the permit to open that factory in your area."
I mean the whole idea you're voting for an MP who represents your area is made utter bollocks by the concept of the whip - so much so that when they have an "open vote", the government actually makes a song and dance that this one isn't a corrupt waste of time!

It's the role of the whips to try and get their MPs to tow the party line, but there are still lines they shouldn't be crossing, such as threatening to withhold public funds.
The accusations are hearsay, they're gunning for Johnson and the whips well know the limits, but Johnson has dug a hole for himself. Given his propensity for twisting things, deflecting things and often outright prevarication, he's left himself with a situation where I'm far more likely to believe the other bloke.Last edited by MartyG; 20-01-2022, 21:14.

Imagine the Government and Police resources we'll save now that we live in an era where investigations aren't started until evidence already exists

When you listen to them speak, Nadine Dorries springs to mind on the BBC, but it could be David Davis on Brexit, Rees-Mogg on real life, Boris Johnson on almost anything, is how they speak with utter confidence and complete certainty on matters which, when scrutinised to a mere scratch away from their opinion on it, they reveal that they know absolutely nothing about it. They have no knowledge, no prior experience, no transferable skills, nothing that would enable them to understand or envision the effects of what they want to happen, only the absolute certainty that their opinion is the only way....
