I don't feel any malice toward the Queens death, the royal family in general have no relevance in my day to day life. What has irked me on the way in to work though is the media telling me constantly how I should be sad, miserable music on the usually upbeat rock music station I listen to on the way in to work this morning trying to bum me out among a load of folk jumping on the public expressions of grief.

If Charles wants to really make his mark as a King, maybe he should step up to the plate in these days of financial crisis and put a stop to the government spunking billions in public money up the wall over the Queens passing and as the obscenely wealthy family that they are, maybe put their hands in their pockets and pay for the funeral. The money that will be poured in to this by the tories is needed elsewhere, not to fund the tourist circus this will become. Not that it will ever happen.

I appreciate the point about being respectful if people are upset for whatever reason. I think that's OK.

What I don't like is that me and the rest of the country are now going to be subject to days of endless biased coverage that realistically only exists to serve the idea that the Royal Family must continue and shut down any discussion of "end of the monarchy" until such time that Charles is accepted as King and we just continue as before, I don't get to have a say in it.

I was back in secondary school when Diana died, they had a book of condolences brought in with the expectation that we must all sign it with a nice message. I refused on the basis that I didn't have any real opinion of her, had never met her, she would have been oblivious to my existence. I just didn't want to do it. I didn't get given the same level of respect as somebody choosing to mourn, I was treated like scum over it.

I was just thinking Boris must be a bit pissed off - he actually wrote a very good (historically good?) obituary/tribute which I heard on the TV a few hours ago. It would have bought a lump to my throat if I wasn't a cold hearted *********.

I'd bet you he had that in his pocket or laptop, mapped out at least for just this occasion and less than four days after Liz Truss officially took control it actually happens.

If Boris had still been PM it would have been his perfect centre stage swansong and the state funeral together with the crowning of a new monarch the historic 'highlight' of his tenure. He'd be remembered for it.

Old ERII's timing spiked Boris's guns very nicely.

Every-man and his dog is posting condolences including the now going viral for all the wrong reasons below tweet

That brands like Dominoes pizza are sending condolences to the queen over twitter all feels very crass and false its like when you get cat biscuits supporting LGBTQ+ causes with Ranibow packaging and a few hashtags.

Maybe Jimmy's Dildo Emporium are Royal Warrant Holders? Anyone know if their rubber cocks have those stamps on 'em like you see on things like HP Sauce?

I just got an Email from a service I used to locate a local plumber wishing their condolences. I'm glad that "Rated People" are thinking of me at this difficult time.

It's an interesting look into the way the media works again though. I know that they'll have pre-prepared content etc but it all needs constantly revising and updating to reflect events and the scale of content really highlights how hand in hand the monarchy works with government and media marketing as well as the extent to which they blatantly lie to the public on a regular basis.

JFC I feel like I need to scrub my entire body after visiting Facebook. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.

Now is the perfect time for the Tories to jam in as much **** as they can under the radar while everyone is sobbing away.

It's a major operation, alright! Despite my better judgment I looked on the BBC News site on my phone first thing and counted 19 individual articles on the Queen, many of them extensive reflective pieces, as well as the running 'live' updates. There was no other news available at all.

Tying in with what Fishbowlhead said, I explained to my wife that I'm quite jealous of Charles having his mum around until she was 96 and when she died, she literally died in a castle, surrounded by her family and servants, whereas my mum died from cancer at 69 in my sister's house with minimal care because Covid had locked all the hospitals down.

Which is where I'm trying to come from if you're chatting with people today, there are going to be a whole host of opinions because everyone's life experiences are different, so tread carefully.

As for the change in monarch, we here at Bordersdown have know for some time what it's like to be ruled by a King Charles
A benevolent and just ruler for sure, long live the King

Guardians pieces have been nice, given the last twelve months investigative efforts they've made to uncover the corruption and law fixing she's been up to all these years

So someone got arrested in Scotland for a sign saying "**** the Monarchy".

On the one hand, this is totally unacceptable, because arresting people for this sort of thing is a bit North Korea.

On the other, people are saying it's because her sign had the word "****" on it.

Maybe I'm overly sensitive to this. I remember years ago, at a family place of business, being tasked to ask a customer to leave because he had an FCUK parody shirt which just said **** on it, and another customer had complained. I remember the guy going from placid to absolutely exploding, yelling about freedom of speech and all that.

That being said, I do think in this case that someone's dropped the ball. There's no way she should've been arrested for this.

They're actually being charged, too, it's been confirmed today - "in connection with a breach of the peace".

Well, thanks to the anti protest Bill, she can be arrested because its a 'public disturbance'. If the police deem it to be so. If she raised her voice, she can also be arrested for disturbing the peace.
