In the space of a week, we've had an unelected PM and unelected monarch.
People are being arrested for shouting dissent to the royal family (not the king, but Andrew) and holding up "Not My King" signs.
One guy had a blank sign and was told he'd be arrested if he wrote on it.

Doesn't quite feel like a democracy at the moment.

We're totally a free society! Nothing like those evil leaders and nations we fight against!

Trussell Trust defends food banks after Queen’s funeral prompts closures - BelfastTelegraph.co.uk
Things get heated for food banks that face possibly needing to close on Monday

A number of supermarkets have also said they will close on the day of The Queen's funeral, which is a bank holiday

Morrison's makes the big decisions other supermarkets can't and turns down the beep volume on its checkouts in respect of the Queens death

To be fair, I don't see that as any less ridiculous, but I couldn't see an obvious answer online.
No idea. I wasn't here then. If the current one died I wouldn't care less. I don't know him. To me he's a compete stranger just like the Queen. The thing is, the Queen is a symbol of the country that should be commemorated but ****, the amount of inconvenience it is causing is too much.
That's just my opinion of course.

Oh man, that sucks. I hope you are able to do something nice for the missus. How about a special meal at home or something?

Now that is sensible. Doing something like that as a sign of respect, I understand. It's like a minutes silence in a way.

RoyalMail are predictably taking the day off on collections & delivery's.

I just remembered that in 2018 the then emperor died. For sure the country never shut down. I don't remember any disruption in anything at all. The only thing we got was a crap load on TV and an extra holiday

Will you be putting up a special poll to commemorate the occasion though?

I'd struggle to do it without it being a sarcastic set of options

I’d honestly be worried if there wasn’t sarcasm in all threads on this forum.

This thread on Twitter about the queue to see the coffin is the best thing I've read in days
