Imran Khan was my local MP, first Conservative elected here since the 1930s. His reign has been one of the most peculiar things I've ever seen. Nobody had ever heard of him whatsoever, even people who were very involved in local politics. He was apparently born here, but then left and went to be educated in Moscow, then worked all over the world and hovered around London for a bit before very suddenly becoming the Conservative candidate for the MP. It sounds like he was an emergency choice because the last guy (Anthony Calvert) ran off when they uncovered a load of mad racist stuff on his Facebook page.
Anyway, he got in and seemed to have very little to do with anything other than rarely appearing in the local area for a photo opportunity and some general pandemic related stuff. Fairly certain he was in London pretty much 100% of the time, though in late 2020 he managed to turn up in Wakefield to get drunk and have a singalong at a private event at a amateur football club whilst we were under Tier 2 lockdown rules. He later insisted he didn't break any rules, then would provide an explanation, then just deleted everything and it went away. Other than voting with the government on every single issue, we didn't hear much. I've never met a person who had ever had a response to any mail to him.
However, it wasn't until early 2021 that we got to hear his fantastic grand vision for the city - a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail! And knocking down the main shopping centre to create an enormous conference centre "the size of a small town". Bear in mind if you've ever been to Wakefield, it's just a fairly grotty small market city. The general reaction to this amazing plan was one of "what to hell" and to wonder if he'd been huffing glue. I don't think anyone believed it made any sense. Besides the enormous costs, the fact that he'd be knocking down the main city shopping centre (a pretty large one at that - 319,000 sq-ft over 3 floors, 1000 parking spaces, 80 shops, 5-screen cinema, plus smaller retail units) and also hadn't told them of this was a bit of a surprise. Even the council leader didn't agree and seemed to think it was a ridiculous idea, but he was going to approach the PM anyway for the £1 billion (!) it would supposedly cost.
Shortly after, the allegations came out and his Conservative membership was suspended and he stayed on as an independent. His office closed down, the local Conservative office also made clear they were nothing to do with him and I don't think he ever came back to town. It was pretty much complete radio silence from him from that point on - he did a Facebook post to say R.I.P to the MP who got stabbed, another one to say about some level up funding. Nothing since last October, but apparently still our MP even though he isn't doing anything and won't respond to anyone about anything.
We now have him saying he won't quit and is going to continue to stay on as an independent whilst he appeals (which could take months) so even longer now without an MP in a city that is rapidly crumbling due to the state of the economy and desperately needs support and representation. Great system! The only thing I'm looking forward to is to see whether the Conservatives send around any canvassers this time, because I could use a laugh.

could be worse you could have Phillip fillabuster Davies, id prefer an inactive Tory over this piece of human waste.
He has been criticised for "talking out" Parliamentary Bills not supported by the government and by doing so "kill off legislation he doesn't like".
Davies is known for campaigns against left-wing political correctness and feminism and is a campaigner for the men's rights movement. He played a lead role in securing the first International Men's Day debate in Parliament in 2015; the debate has since taken place annually.

Apparently, the first sitting PM in history to break the law. That he helped to write, presumably.
As a nation, we are as weak as piss to accept this. The lies, the cronyism, the ineptitude. All hidden behind a mask of ‘Got Brexit Done’ fanboyism, ‘he’s a character’ excuses, and ‘now is not the time’ equivocation. This lot aren’t even as high as third rate. They’d do well governing some oppressed third world nation. Shame on us for letting this happen, and shame on those who continue to excuse it.

Love the calls for both to resign - of course they won't and the spineless Tories will go full on Republican and back him as well rather than face a leadership challenge during the local elections. It's like we went over a short while ago, Johnson is a walking liability blundering weekly from one scandal to another, one lie to the next and that isn't going to change so the longer they prop him up the more dirt gets unearthed and they should think on how long it is till their own dirty laundry comes out.
Honestly, that this will mirror the Trump era so closely says everything about British politics

As expected, Johnson is refusing calls to resign as is Sunak and the Tories are now rallying around them locking in that under a large majority the UK is under a dictatorship rule when it comes to accountability in the office of power
