EDIT: Retrospectively that's overly harsh. It's not a conspiracy; it's just the sudden rush. But we've established that this is a money-making exercise so we shouldn't expect good service; we should anticipate the worst we'll still pay for.

I can't imagine it's going to make a big difference.

Weirdly one of my readings (there are three rates on my meter) had gone down, so I had to send them a photo. Either I cocked it up last time or my meter is broken

Now, of course, the amount of power you get charged for is based on the price it was, when you used it. But if your last reading was in January and your next one is in June, you're going to have a load of power usage and the power company would have to estimate how much of that was on the old cheaper tariff and how much was on the new.
Wouldn't be a huge issue except we've just come out of winter, where people use more power - but I suspect people believe the power company would, in that above situation, average out the cost-per-day and split it down the middle.
If you measure today (or recently), then when you give a measurement in summer, you'll pay less.

'Smart' Meter..................meh!
Another internet connected spy in the home, Big Brother is slowly creeping up on us. How long before the currently benign 'smart equipment' in our homes starts being able to reduce or cut off essential services when you've missed a payment accidentally, simply can't pay or there's been a glitch?
It's about money saving for the companies involved not the consumer.
How to save electricity and gas use is pretty damn obvious, I've been doing it for years.
