UK cost of living payments were ineffective sticking plaster, IFS says | UK cost of living crisis | The Guardian
Not sure I agree. Benefits system increases would work in most situations but not during this rapid crisis when so many people were affected on such a wide scale and most wouldn't be in the benefits system. It's a too common assumption that if you're not on benefits you're cash rich and don't need help. The payments were a blunt tool but if it were done via the benefits system there would have been chaos for millions.

Do I think the parasocial relationships it creates are weird? Absolutely. It is a bit odd to have older people buying things and paying money to talk to and watch (at times) pretty young people doing those things. But it's legal, and The Sun had no right to "out" someone for doing it.

If you've been on PornHub (pretty much ever, but especially since that news a few years ago that they wiped all the non-verified stuff off their site), even just to watch a video for a daft laugh, you've "enabled" someone who is making porn, just as much as watching a YouTube video enables a YouTuber. The fact he gave this person a lot of money is incidental; he has a lot of money. To some people twenty quid is a lot of money.

In the internet age, on this topic, nearly everyone's house is glass.
      Absolutely man.

I'm not in any way surprised the guy has had a mental collapse.

Imagine if you were married to a woman, but secretly actually gay or bi, and venting those feelings by funnelling cash to a male OnlyFans performer, then all of that got exposed to everyone in your office and your family. Oh and you're fired. Imagine how stressful that would be. Then imagine that it's not just your office and your family but literally the entire bloody UK and you're being castigated on the front page of the UK's most popular newspaper.

      I'd probably eat a gun.

Have you ever been in the alps or walked 12 hectares over space in the mountains? Let me know how that goes and we’ll meet back here after 😁

12 hectares isn't a particularly large area taken in isolation. In the Alps however, yeah, different ball game.

Great quote from Hugh Grant over this The Sun scandal:

What the public is interested in isn't necessarily in the public interest.

The part of the alps there in looks much like a pretty simple village given the area space. In that case I'm assuming that it's too complex to expand the search so they need to research the best choice of specific direction to target and pray he's found and they haven't chosen the wrong spot.

I'm amazed it's not more common though given how many toddlers and small kids are left to go solo in roads and streets everywhere

And out of the woodwork snakes Katie Hopkins on TikTok, saying "Yes what Huw's done isn't illegal, but it IS unethical-"

Probably other stuff. That's the point at which I stopped.

I don't think Katie Hopkins has the moral high ground to lecture anyone on ethics, or why anyone would be interested in what she has to say tbh.

                      Borris cant remember his passcode???

I'm surprised that hes not getting charged with withholding evidence from an active investigation, Do you think if their was a court ordered mandate to turn over our phone the police would just let us miss the deadline and then give an excuse as poor as the dog ate my homework as to why we hadn't handed it over.

I cannot understand why they need his passcode. Give it to police tech or MI5 and they will copy the phone contents and unlock it themselves by bypassing the code.

If that is nor possible, charge him with obstructing an investigation and see him locked up.

I don't know what type of phone it is, but you'd be surprised how hard they are to crack. The FBI has asked Apple to help them unlock phones or offer a back door and theyve said no.
                            Then whatsapp is also encrypted.
If he 'Can't remember' the pass code to unlock the phone, I don't know what the police digital forensics team can do.

And it isn't a criminal investigation so why would MI5 or the police be involved in any way?

The thing is though its not plausible that he cant get into his account, did he suddenly stop using whats app when he got his new phone? surely he would of transferred his account over, whatsapp have recovery options for when you cant remember your password via verifying who you are too.

This is pure and simple a case of Boris not wanting to give them the rope they will hang him by.
