I kind of wonder how many issues for children will be mishandled due to being swept under the rug of blaming the pandemic. Some of the things raised are real issues, especially for children who would have supportive needs in any scenario. Some of the cases are also over generalised and already seem to ignore the practical realities of households and what actually happened during COVID

Councils want the power for unlimited tax rises instead of the current 5%. Ah yes, once again let’s shove the burden of mishandled funds onto the people funding everything already.

I do wonder if young people will be put off seeking a career in sectors that don't lend themselves to home working. Then again I know some people who love going into the office. I tend to go in when necessary (I can't really wire up electrical rigs and PLCs from home).

I worry about too much home working. When I was at IBM, I worked at home a lot and the lack of interaction in real life didn't go well. And the ping of the messenger turned into a noise I dreaded, whereas in the office, someone walking over to say exactly the same thing as they'd ping on messenger was a welcome thing.

The scale of doing it would be eye watering but there needs to be full reviews and where necessary restructures, overhauls etc made in every field before significant funding increases and taxation is deployed. So many services etc are cash starved but there's also the lack of faith that extra money would be used where it needs to be.

The compressed hours story is a weird one, weird in that the media latched onto it so much. It's a complete nothing burger of a plan, a classic case of trying to look like you're doing something whilst doing nothing. You can literally request it right now and your odds are precisely the same as they will be in the future.

Everyone I speak too who does a front line job is just growing resentful of office staff working from home still, and always being uncontactable when actually needed to do their job, phone calls are ignored, emails go days without an answer.

Now this isn’t the case for ALL wfh staff, as I’m sure there’s a lot of seasoned employees out there that have done their time and are far more productive wfh. But the majority especially young people? Year their just dossing on the whole, and need to earn the right to perks like wfh.

My neighbour is just hilarious, he just plays in the garden all day with his young daughter, answers the phone “yep I’ll get back to you on that” forgets all about it and carries on playing, has a sit down and a nap, or their out on a day out. I mean it’s fantastic for his daughter, but also not fair on his coworkers picking up the slack, or other employees not getting pay rises or even equal wages to someone that does absolutely nothing and doesn’t even have to go anywhere.

Which is always impressive as it's common place yet comes down to poor management, from the same managers who will penny pinch at every other level

Folk are definitely different! Referring to Charles' comment, I HATE people just wandering over and interrupting me. If I need an hour to crack a tricky problem then at home I will just mark myself as busy for that hour (I can't do that in an office). If I'm needed urgently then they can call me of course.

The grass is always greener of course. I had friends who resented that I only worked til noon on a Friday. I resented the fact they could take their phone into the office!

Ah there we go, that’s better, standard operating procedure for gov then.

So onto hydrogen then and once that gets established they can put a water tax on those for producing pesky h2o.

From what I have heard, fairly close up in my old council (two family members worked there and then the local newspaper breaking scandal upon scandal), most councillors aren't qualified to handle multi-million pound budgets. A lot of them don't have a clue and some are actively quasi-criminal with how they choose to spend the tax money they are responsible for.

How many politicians or their pals profited off grenfell and projects just like it? A lot im guessing.

Just like horizon, there will be no justice whatsoever on this, it will go round and round endlessly in finger pointing so no one sees any punishment.

I've been working from home in some capacity in my jobs since 2008, so all the changes for a lot of people when COVID hit were water off a ducks back for myself. You just used to a different set of distractions really!

Masturbation mostly. That's something not enough people talk about when it comes to working from home.

God help the people who have to go back to the office after years of that.
