I kind of wonder how many issues for children will be mishandled due to being swept under the rug of blaming the pandemic. Some of the things raised are real issues, especially for children who would have supportive needs in any scenario. Some of the cases are also over generalised and already seem to ignore the practical realities of households and what actually happened during COVID

I worry about too much home working. When I was at IBM, I worked at home a lot and the lack of interaction in real life didn't go well. And the ping of the messenger turned into a noise I dreaded, whereas in the office, someone walking over to say exactly the same thing as they'd ping on messenger was a welcome thing.

The scale of doing it would be eye watering but there needs to be full reviews and where necessary restructures, overhauls etc made in every field before significant funding increases and taxation is deployed. So many services etc are cash starved but there's also the lack of faith that extra money would be used where it needs to be.
The compressed hours story is a weird one, weird in that the media latched onto it so much. It's a complete nothing burger of a plan, a classic case of trying to look like you're doing something whilst doing nothing. You can literally request it right now and your odds are precisely the same as they will be in the future.

Now this isn’t the case for ALL wfh staff, as I’m sure there’s a lot of seasoned employees out there that have done their time and are far more productive wfh. But the majority especially young people? Year their just dossing on the whole, and need to earn the right to perks like wfh.
My neighbour is just hilarious, he just plays in the garden all day with his young daughter, answers the phone “yep I’ll get back to you on that” forgets all about it and carries on playing, has a sit down and a nap, or their out on a day out. I mean it’s fantastic for his daughter, but also not fair on his coworkers picking up the slack, or other employees not getting pay rises or even equal wages to someone that does absolutely nothing and doesn’t even have to go anywhere.

Folk are definitely different! Referring to Charles' comment, I HATE people just wandering over and interrupting me. If I need an hour to crack a tricky problem then at home I will just mark myself as busy for that hour (I can't do that in an office). If I'm needed urgently then they can call me of course.
The grass is always greener of course. I had friends who resented that I only worked til noon on a Friday. I resented the fact they could take their phone into the office!
