Starmer’s basically the British Macron, isn’t he? A “centrist” who’s indistinguishable from the right-wingers. An authoritarian neoliberal politician swimming in wealth, cut off from the reality of how normal people struggle and suffer.
The opinions of people right now don't matter. What we think in 4 years is more important and also people are mostly stupid (see Brexit). Sunak's poor opinion poll results were at the end of a 14 year Tory stint.

For polling purposes, it’s remarkable that a government which won an election with such a massive majority has collapsed in popularity after mere weeks. That’s almost unprecedented in recent times. Starmer’s only hope for a second term if is the Tories go absolutely bat**** unelectable while also refusing to merge with Reform. If Labour is floundering now, it’ll be sunk after the public has suffered another painful round of harsh austerity cuts.

You've got to remember, they weren't that popular to begin with. People just wanted the Tories out.

Yep, 2027 onward will the defining years. Even if the Tories embraced Reform, it would only work to keep them out of power as they need to demonstrate a hard shift away from the mindset and practices that got them kicked out. At the moment they're still circling the same drain so the threat is minimal but come 2027 Labour will need a strong forward approach as they're definitely too defined by the popularity of their rival party.

So they’re going to raise business rates back to 100% for the hospitality industry that’s already on its knees, or more likely never even got off them. Slow clap labour, slow clap.

Well yes, but all we’ve got is a continuation of the Tory government in all but names and faces – it’s all the same policies, plus an extra large helping of harsh austerity measures.

Well, hopefully less corruption and not trying to send refugees to Rwanda but yes, they didn't arrive with a massive bag of cash and start dishing it out.

Probably for the best, God forbid they'd still plead poverty at home while using that bag of cash to fund two foreign conflicts.

Sounds like either the means testing is broken, or the woman in the report doesn't need the winter fuel boost but just likes the money. I fully expect it's the former. Means testing for winter fuel allowance is a great idea in principal for the reason I've stated here previously but it only works if the actual testing is any good.

They’re still doing the Rwanda scheme, merely it’s moved to Albania (with the help of Georgia Meloni). The corruption is still open, all with their snouts in the trough while they **** on the poor. Absolute scum, the lot of them. Goes to show how what a scam democracy in this country really is, all get is the exact same policies but with different faces.

So, the problem I have is that the "they're all the same" argument means that the current government avoids proper scrutiny and it gives power to people like Farage who claims he's not cut from the same cloth. "He's a man of the people and speaks his mind!" can is applied by Trump's supporters.

You're absolutely right to draw light to the new Labour government considering a plan to send migrants to Albania, however that's made me look into it a bit further.

It's not a done deal, what has happened is that Kier Starmer and new lead Border Security Command, Martin Hewitt, went to several European countries at the start of the month and was looking into why the Italian scheme was successful at having a 60% drop in illegal migration across the Mediterranean Sea in the past year.

Part of that is they're doing a lot of the processing before people try to cross in a boat, something the Conservative government refused to do with France.

                        More details about this here:

"Home Secretary Yvette Cooper also hinted to Sky News that the UK could be interested in a similar deal, though she insisted it was not akin to the last government's Rwanda plan.

"We will be interested to see how [the Albania scheme] develops," she told Kay Burley. "We've always said we would look at what works.

"The Rwanda scheme... was run for two and a half years by the Conservatives. They spent £700m on sending four volunteers to Rwanda. That is not a workable programme.

"The arrangements that Italy has with Albania is a very different one. It's effectively around having a fast track for those who have arrived from predominantly safe countries and is also a scheme that is monitored by the UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency) as well to make sure that proper standards are in place and we will see how it develops."

Pushed by Kay Burley on whether the government was considering the move, Ms Cooper added: "It's not in place at the moment. So no, as we've always said, we will look at anything that works.

"But no, that's not the scheme that we're looking at at the moment.""

I personally believe "they're all the same" leads to apathy and the genuine crooks of the last government with their fastpass VIP lanes, helicopter plans and free house redecoration are mentioned as exactly the same level as someone instructed to use a box at the football because it's an expensive security risk to be in the stands. It's not the same.

What Chimpy said plus "Comparisons have been made with the scrapped Rwanda deal, however one key difference is that migrants sent to Rwanda would have needed to remain there even if they win refugee status."

So, firstly it hasn't happened. Secondly that's not their current plan and lastly the Albania system we're talking about is one where asylum seekers (only from countries that are deemed safe) are processed INITIALLY in Albania.

That is not "they're all the same". The Tory policy was to send everyone to a country that had one doctor per 10,000 people, to live, forever.

This government HAS to do something. Illegal immigrants are dying trying to cross the channel and it got worse under the government that told us that leaving the EU would make it better. They're very much not the same in my eyes.
