Yup...Brexit, Culture Wars, more politically-engineered open hate and division, ongoing austerity that destroys public services, rampant social and economic inequality, cost of living crisis, wages not keeping up with inflation, affordable higher education and housing ownership becoming pretty much an absolute pipe dream for those that don't come from privilege....definitely the fault of the younger generation and absolutely nothing to do with the people who came long before them. I for one absolutely cannot imagine why they have zero faith in the current system.

This obviously isn't good news (and I'm giving a survey reported on by Metro massive credit here) but blaming Gen Z is disingenuous.

Damning for the older generations who have driven them to that point, and it'll be damning for Starmer if he doesn't enact the necessary proper systematic change. He literally has the opportunity to ensure that a Faragian future doesn't happen, because that's the precipice we're on now - Reform are here and there is enough discontent with Labour/Tories (allied to what else is going on in global politics) to make the dreaded outcome happen here.

It's going to be interesting how they navigate the coming years. Much of the next 4 years was about trying to pin the Tories down, deal with their fallout and cement another term but with the way things are unfolding on the right wing internationally they're going to have to also deal with a very real threat for survival on all fronts as well now, with the UK public already being **** to rely on

It's almost like the electorate will only give him their trust if he and his government actually start to deliver the change that will make them better off, the change that they promised when coming into power, instead of the absolute status quo weaksauce (to put it politely) that they are currently delivering.

My kids haven't watched BBC since Ceebeebies, so maybe 10 years minimum ago, when I stopped paying for the license. One of them is 18 now. I don't think they will want to be funding it - it's just not relevant to the way they consume entertainment. Same with my partner's offspring. I presume this is the norm for young people. They just want Youtube and Netflix. I haven't missed it either. However, I get that there are niche things that wouldn't get made otherwise, so I'm torn between selfishly not caring about the BBC at all and considering that some stuff needs to be made in Welsh.

                  Let's look at today's BBC1 lineup:
Breakfast: The news. I don't watch the news and just rely on one-sided things fed to me by the algorithm.
Morning Live: No idea what this is about. Latest celeb gossip?
Defenders: Investigative journalism - makes a change, but I don't care about a fatal truck accident enough to watch.
Homes under the hammer: Save me.
                  Bargain Hunt: Kill me
                  BBC News: Nope
Lost and found in the Lakes: Shoot me
Animal Park: How animals behave in a zoo. Might be interesting, but would never sit down and watch it.
Escape to the country: Kill them all
The bidding room: wtf is this obsession with old tat
The travelling auctioneers: Why do we possibly need one auction program, let alone two in a row?.....
Pointless: (not my comment, it's the name of the show) Game show maybe? Nope from me
                  BBC News again: whatever
The One Show: stories that matter from across the country? I doubt it.
                  Eastenders: Please no
The Repair shop: The team salvages a rugby shirt that has had a laundry disaster. OMG
Idris Alba Knife Crime Crisis: For the Daily Mail readers I guess
                  BBC News again: .....
Football, then Rugby: I don't mind watching football etc, but would rather be doing sport or playing games or watching Netflix.

                  What a load of rubbish.

I find it hard to find anyone with a compelling reason for the BBC to exist as a public broadcaster in 2024. Paying a company that you don't use to make content hardly anyone watches is a far cry from saving the NHS. Hell, it would be a better argument to keep the fee but simply redirect all of it to the NHS.

I've said it before: I don't necessarily care about BBC Television (although you can make a case for iPlayer being the best pound-for-pound TV-on-Demand service out there) but BBC Sounds (Radio/Podcast/Music) content is up there with the best in the world and that would almost certainly be compromised considerably if anything happens to the licence fee.
