Had a girl take me to a ryokan style love hotel yesterday morning, but when i woke up i realised she was almost double my age so i made a discreet exit when she took a shower!

The only downside was i lost my phone and had to come home to this **** hole of a room^0^
Ahhhh lovely stuff, You look a bit too much like my old mate in Tokyo "Pascal" however

Good work on the old hound, where did you pick her up?

Ah! Well done, she looked like a 10 pinter alright.
I shagged the barmaid there last week, by the way, the friendly one with the bad teeth.

I was told thursday nights was a big no-no for gaijin in there, is that true?

Finally booked a 2-week holiday to Tokyo for next year. Admittedly, it's still a way off, but I got 10 nights (inc. flights) in Tokyo staying at the Keio Plaza in Shinjuku for ?1262, then we're travelling down to Kyoto for a few days before heading home.

Anyone know any cheap places to stay in Osaka that can be booked on fairly short notice? Thanks.

You had a look at asiarooms.com?
We were thinking of going there when we visit Japan this September, and I had a good look for accomodation on that site and some of the prices were very reasonable by Japan standards. The price of the train tickets from Tokyo to Osaka's putting me right off tho.

Have you looked at the rail passes? When I went last, I took a countrywide 2-week rail pass which ended up costing a little more than a Tokyo-Kyoto return. A real wallet-saver it was.

OMG, 46 pages??? I have just read 11 and I'm already confused...

I'm planning to go to Japan for three weeks. Initital thinking was to spend maybe a week in Tokyo and travel the rest of the time to see the country, but reading this it seems many people spend an entire month in Tokyo. What is recommended?

Also, nightlife - some say Roppongi is ****, others say it's great - where can you go to experience nightlife in Tokyo without feeling hustled? Also are there any good punk/rock places where we might see live music?

Shibuya is probably my fav night-time location, although you will still get hustled a little.

Womb and Club Asia are great clubs, you will be beating them off with a stick (Unless you have 2 heads or somthing)

Well you could spend a whole month in Tokyo but there's tons you'd be missing out on. You could probably see most of it in 7 days if you're active enough. Personally, I'd say definitely visit the Kansai area. You've got Kyoto, Nara, Himeji Osaka and Kobe all in close proximity. Hiroshima & Miyajima Island well are worth a visit too. Fukuoka seemed a little dull compared to the other places IMO. I did all those plus Tokyo in just over 2 weeks armed with a countrywide rail pass and it was fantastic overall.

I'm looking at going back next year for a few weeks. Planning on skipping Tokyo altogether and spending the time in and around Kansai as I didn't give it enough time on the last trip.

Sound adivce - on my first trip I did Kyoto, Nara and Osaka along with Tokyo but one the second trip only went to Tokyo and really missed the more chilled out vibe of Kyoto. I like the fact that the centre is in all in one place and not the sprawling Metropolis that is Tokyo. It has more old Japan too and definitely feels like you are playing Shenmue when you wander some of the backstreets!

I'm going back in Sept for two weeks and intending to visit Kobe, Himeji and possibly Hiroshima before heading back up to Tokyo - it is still a great city.

Absolutely. Tokyo is a fabulous place and totally different from anywhere else I've been. Wish I had more time when I next go to head back there again.

Can anyone with decent local knowledge of Tokyo help me here...

we are going over for the Japanese Grand Prix, but tickets are only sent out two weeks prior. This is too much of a risk, so we need to get them shipped to a UPS depot in Japan and pick them up when we are there.

Currently assuming we will be staying at the Juyoh hotel near Asakusa, in the ****amachi area - which of these locations is closest to that area?

Alternatively, are any of them in a really obvious, central area so we won't have to walk for miles to get there?
