I might just go to Japan for a career break, teach english and get hammered for a while.

I think the phone will, its just the network which might have a problem. Phone Orange and see if they have Passport service like Vodafone. The reason I bought a Vodafone phone was to use it in Japan. The phone may pick up another Network which maybe o.k I'm not sure.

I'm going on 15th, got a good deal flying EK (Emirates) but we were handicapped slightly as we needed one of our tickets to be a six monther so our choices of deals were limited.
Where are you flying from/to, for example Emirates don't fly to NRT - Tokyo.Last edited by Anpanman; 26-03-2007, 21:21.

Flying from London and was planning on going to NRT. We cannot be too flexible as the reason we are able to go is my wife will be attending a World Congress Conference with work. I plan to do all my gaming stuff while she attends that and then we will have a week together after she has finished.

Just had a quick look at two of the agents we use - they mainly cater to the Japanese community in UK and have good deals
Prices exclude taxes;
AWL Travel - awlt.com (doesn't work well in Firefox use IE)
Asiana via Seoul ?440
China Eastern via Shanghai ?465
Air France via Paris ?485
Asiana are excellent, I've flown them and would recommend them
China Eastern usually offer 30k in economy and should be OK
Air France are fine until something goes wrong.
Gendai Travel - Gendai.co.uk
They have similar prices to AWL, but also have the likes of;
Korean via Seoul ?420 (from 20th August, it's ?506 on 18th)
They also sell Qatar Airways via Doha ?360 (from 20th August) great price but Qatar don't fly into Tokyo, Osaka only I'm afraid.
Korean used to be a bit poor but now fine,
The tickets you need to look at are the Satogaeri type.
We've used both agents, they offer excellent service and will pre-book seats etc.
Give them a call or send a mail.
Any more info on airlines etc please ask.

I'm going to Japan in August/September(haven't decided yet). I'm going to be studying at Kobe University for a year, as the year abroad of my degree (Business Studies and Japanese). The prospect of studing business studies in Japanese in classes of Japanese people has me a little nervous. Still, I'm really looking forward to going back to Japan. I was there for a few months a couple of years ago, and I really loved it there. I've never been to Kansai, which is part of the reason I chose it, and also because I think that being in Kobe and beside Kyoto and Osaka, there should be a lot to keep me occupied during the year. Has anyone here spent time in Kobe? Will I regret not just choosing Tokyo?
I reckon this is a long shot, but if anybody's studied at Kobe University, any info about that would be greatly appreciated too.
