According to reports in Spain, Liverpool have signed Roma's Aquilani for around 18m euros.

Sounds like the Alonso is a goner. As long as we keep Monster, I'll be okay and wont **** my pants just yet.

Aquilani is a highly rated player but the times ive seen him he has dissapointed,but im sure hell fit right in to your lots style of play.

He seems to be quite an injury prone player too. If true, god help him on his first "welcome to the prem" tackle

Alonso has to go because he has put in a written transfer request. There is nothing worse than having a player in your squad that doesn't want to be there.

May aswell let him move on and cash in on him. Real will get desperate and Liverpool will meet them half way, netting £25mil for him. That'll allow us to get Aquilani or, my preference, Cambiasso and hopefully Lucas will carry on improving like he has promised to. Meaning Mascherano can be sold at some point too, he has also made it clear he wants to leave.

There is no use trying to keep a player that has decided their future lies away from the club.

For the last few years at Roma every season was going to be his breakthrough year where he finally made the most of all his promise, but it hasn't quite happened yet.

Great on his day though, I remember him playing a blinder against Madrid when Roma beat them in the Bernabeu a couple of seasons ago. If Liverpool can get the consistency into his game that he needs then he should be a very good signing.

Thing is Roma have been like that for a good few years. Promising a lot more than they have ever given. I'm hoping its more the team and its efforts that is dragging Aquilani down rather than him being the main reason for not pushing on like he has promised to.

Sad to see him go, very few players as intelligent, cultured and professional as him around. £30 Mill is excellent business though if true, just a shame he didn't go another year as he could have become a legend...

Just hope we spend the money wisely.

You need to spend that money on quality. Liverpool need to strengthen their squad to be in with a proper shot at the league. Need the squad to be strong enough to avoid a post xmas collapse

Man U have a weakened squad but Chelsea's is the same strength (possibly stronger if you consider Cole and Shevchenko being available a boost) and they potentially don't have the Scolari handicap

They do have the Ancelotti handicap though. Whilst Cole is definitely a boost I dont think Shevchenko is. But I do agree with your sentiment that Liverpool need a bit of something extra, the problem is the funds just arent there.
