Rafa has already mentioned today the midfield will play a little differently with Aquilani. Mascherano will play as the deepest midfielder with Aquilani ahead of him, whereas previously Mash has mostly played as a shield in front of Alonso.

Whilst its obviously a video of Aquilani's highlights I'm very happy with whats on it. If you go through the midfielders Liverpool have, even with Alonso included, I think a few of those passes wouldnt/couldnt be attempted by a lot of them.
He will give Liverpool exactly what they need, that guile in the middle to unlock a defence with some sharp accurate passing. Basically a more attacking version of what Alonso did last year.

Not the greatest set of pre-season results and a full set of injured defenders - perfect to take to another away day opener!
I am not sure how the season is going to start but think we will be OK overall. Disappointed with the Madrid game:
A) booing of Forlan, unnecessary I think - yeah he was ex MU but we should be above that, especially for bit parters as he was. AFAIK, he never said bad things about us, did he?
B) terrible defending - Johnson was totally done for the second goal. First goal should have been covered but he is not gonna be a first teamer. A lot of dallying on the ball by the young CBs too.
C) Torres didn't score, again. He looked tidy and dangerous but no goals. Great runs a few times so hopefully they will come off from next week.
D) Not finishing chances in general, we made quite a few but not very good at the old shooting.
E) Insua
F) Lucas kept the team ticking along nicely, not sure he has the craft regularly enough to go with his simple passing but he knows that this is his chance for a while.
G) N'Gog seems significantly more mature.
H) Voronin is always good in pre-season. I think he did well before injury in his first season - he gets stick for his hair I reckon (as did Lucas)
I) Can Kuyt and Johnson link as effectively as K+A? Johnson did quite well attcking but didn't see so much linking.
J) Babel looked hungrier but did, at first, look like a dog chasing his tail! Got a little better but he has to do something while Riera is out. Ryan and Lucas have a great chance for the first part of the season to stake claims.
K) Masch, sort your fitness out.

Or at least that's what I imagine you guys are hoping.

I enjoy passing the time by reading the football blogs on the BBC website but this one is an interesting read about the chances for each club for this upcoming season:
How will the Premier League unfold?
I hope his predictions unfolds however, I get a horrible feeling that it will be a case of swapping the 1st and 3rd predicted positions around...
I am getting quite excited now!
