The problem is not getting through the group, it is what happens as a result of getting through.
A couple of years back, when we tonked Besiktas and Marseille, we were so bad but we needed (for financial reasons) to get through. We did, but the cost was pretty high in terms of Premiership points.
I hope this knocks the complacency out a little. We need Masch to be ready on the weekend and Skrtel needs to sort out what is going wrong in his head.

I am worried that we have been beaten by any half decent side, covered up by us battering (but still conceding goals) weaker sides.

Aston Villa and Spurs?
Spurs for example are a decent team, but already they lost to the mancs and Chelsea and were outplayed for most of those games, whereas we lost and didn't really play well against them.

Still, I feel like the Champions league is a distraction as far as our league hopes go. Anything less than a good performance at Chelsea and at least a draw would be a bit of a shocker for a league hopes even at this early stage.

Well, aside from his below par performance against Stoke, Nani hasn't been too bad for us this season. That said there is still plenty of room for improvement.

I'd be far more worried about Carra than Lucas for Sunday. One of them is playing OK at the moment, and it's not Carra....and he always has a total nightmare against Dropba at the best of times.

Yeah, Carra's having a bit of a mere this season in parts, but I still think Lucas is wasted or not fit for the role he's in. Looked like he was hiding last night. I watch him in front of our defence just standing still or walking at leisure. I just don't think he is confident enough.
