Hicks and Gillette could still get an appeal in.

The judge says an appeal would be "inappropriate" but they've still got the right and that could still make a sale impossible.

Its a great step forward, fingers crossed.

11.22am: Mr Justice Floyd has declined to grant an appeal. The judge said it would be inappropriate in the circumstances for him to grant leave. He said that if Hicks and Gillett are determined to appeal, they would have to apply to the appeal court for permission.

11.11am: Judge tells Hicks and Gillett it would be "inappropriate" to appeal. But that route does still remain open, although it is unclear what it could achieve with a board meeting by 8pm tonight.

And G&H have to pay court costs - what a perfect send off for a pair of mercenary F*ckers!

I'd laugh if the new owners are even worse, it does show how fickle football fans are. Thanks no yanks then please sell us to some different yanks.

There's no evidence that the new owners will be any difference from the old ones (or the glazers).

The franchise system in Americans sports is corrupt as hell (group of rich people decide which other rich people they should let in the league, no need to worry about relegation)

There's no reason to believe the new owners won't now secure the loans they used to buy the club on the club itself. £300mill is a steal, they won't have trouble getting someone to grant them an interest only loan. The board turned down cash sale offers by other people.

To be fair I don't think its an issue if the owners are american or asian etc. as long as the intentions are good. The yanks pun is obviously directed at H & G and was a good soundbite.

Being American had nothing to do with it, it was broken promises and buying the club with borrowed money that was the problem. In their defence alot of what went wrong was down to the economy going tits up. Because they borrowed money to buy the club the debt became unmanageable so stadium plans and transfer budgets were hit as a result.

From what I understand, new owners (whoever of the two it is) will clear the debt and buy the club with their OWN money. If that is what happens then we'll automatically be in a much better position as the club itself generates enough income to fund itself. As it was our club income was paying debt interest every month - now that money can go towards players and getting this stadium built

It's kind of amusing how Purslow has suddenly become a hero. Gotta love how fickle some of the protesters are...

Still regarded as a bit of a gob****e by everyone I know involved in the protest for the way he was briefing against Rafa in the press.

Broughton was certainly unfairly treated by some though - although you can hardly blame people for their lack of faith in anybody involved in running the club after the last few years.

                      Good.

It?s going to be satisfying to see Hicks, a man who accumulated his entire fortune by being a complete and utter ****, get some comeuppance.

This a thousand times over. Not only do they have salary caps, but if you?re in the bottom 2 you get first pick on the best player during the transfer season. There?s no real repercussions like there is in football.

                        There's a Q&A on the verdict here:

The quote that strikes me as interesting is:

Do you have a duty to consider any of the other bids that have come in that may be higher?

We will take legal advice on this.

So basically they're not considering other bids, even if they're higher or better?

                        Comment

Well its pretty difficult to take other bids into consideration if they have signed legally binding deals with NESV.

It'd cost more to get out of the contract than the difference between the offers I imagine.

Jesus christ, Hicks and Gillett have filed an injunction in Texas against the sale of the club. How does that work legally?

They want 1.6bn in damages and reckon the directors have purposefully chosen NESV even though they are much cheaper. My understanding from following the story is that Lim's offer was only increased after the NESV deal was agreed.

Desperate measures by Hicks and Gillett.

                              It's getting pathetic now.

I'd like the answer to this too. Just how does an American court have any jurisdiction in this?
