I'm not sure about Comoli. I wonder who chose him? If Woy chose him then its a sure sign that the club is backing him. Looking at the signings whilst he was at Spurs, there are some decents ones though.

Napoli tomorrow, I wonder if Woy will risk a few big name players? For the confidence of the players it'd be good to get another win under their belts before the game against Chelsea on Sunday.

          This apparently:

          Reina
          Johnson Carra Kyrgiakos Konchesky
          Spearing Poulsen
          Meireles Shelvey Jovanovic
          Ngog

I hope that doesn't mean Kyrgiakos will be dropped in favour of Skrtel on Sunday. Been our best outfield player this season for me.

To be fair to Comolli he did make some good signings with us, as the list above shows, and was instrumental in selling the club to Bale and Modric, when they had other offers, from Man Utd and Newcastle respectively, on the table. There are a few duds in their, but generally the players he bought did the job they were bought to do, or developed into players that could.

The problem - and without having insider knowledge about the workings at Spurs it's hard to know whose fault this was - was that there was never that great a synergy between what Spurs needed on the pitch and the players bought in by Comolli. If Hodgson wants to get the best out of this relationship then there needs to be clear, direct communication between the two of them to establish exactly what the team requires. Given a specific type of player to find, I think you can be fairly confident that Comolli will pick the right player.

It would be nice to see Pacheco get a game tonight. He's hardly been given a chance, which is a shame considering the lack of attacking options, and especially seeing as Roy feels that Spearing and Shelvey should get some time on the pitch.

Not really sure I see the value of playing Poulson over Lucas, as the latter hasn't exactly had loads of games this season and must be fairly fresh. I'd like to see him continue his partnership with Meireles, which I think will benefit from increased playing time, when there is less pressure.

Doesn't look like Roy really fancies him.

Kyrgiakos possibly injured in training, so he might miss the game now with Skrtel coming in.

Assuming Roy is a short term manager (here's hoping) I think him not playing Pacheco could be a blessing for the lad. The last thing you want is an attack minded, flair player to be played in a defence minded team or for poor perfomances (either personal or team) to affect his confidence.

Obviously the problem is keeping him happy in the meantime. He certainly fits the bill for NESW regarding young talent.

Maybe the real Napoli will turn up tonight?

Great second half. Gerrard is a legend.

...a legend who will almost certainly end his Liverpool career without a Premier League winner's medal.

I'm truly gutted for him in that respect.

Gerrard's best showing for a good 12+ months in a Liverpool shirt. Thought the game in general was dire though.

Don't think I've seen that many Police around the ground for a while. Quite tense atmosphere before and after the match outside - lots of reports of scuffles but I didn't see anything myself.

All the scuffles were outside the ground.

Apparently there was quite a few Napoli fans who had legit tickets for the home end. The police said no, no no, Napoli fans get upset, argy bargy ensues.

Plenty of Napoli fans dotted about in the home end, the police/stewards certainly didn't get them all out.

There had been trouble all day in town.

Kuyt back from injury and in the starting line-up against Chelsea. Massive test for Martin Kelly today, in at right back with Skrtel & Carra in central defence.

Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Konchesky, Meireles, Lucas, Kuyt, Gerrard, Maxi, Torres. Subs: Hansen, Jovanovic, Wilson, Ngog, Spearing, Poulsen, Shelvey.
