Knew I shouldn't have posted but it's true, The Daily Mail was truly despicable and actively campaigned to help cause the deaths of countless people, I doubt there's a single person who's grandparents weren't directly effected by the Nazi's. I find boycotting a single British tabloid and not others a misplaced gesture when they've all done awful campaigns over the years. How can you really say one of these is worse than another?

Smurf, you aren't wrong...but is today really the day for it? As I type, the memorial service is taking place. I think you are losing sight of what today is about, 20 years ago 96 people died in a horrible, horrible accident.
I'm pretty sure if you started a thread on the Daily Mail, a lot of people would join in your feelings toward them (myself included), but posting about them in a Liverpool thread, today of all days...it's just not really necessary is it?Last edited by Jebus; 15-04-2009, 13:49.

Smurfy, I totally agree with your points about the Daily Mail.
Not only am I pretty sure - I would REQUEST a THREAD about it. Go to off-topic and start one please. Don't think the D Mail is that popular in Liverpool anyway - they strike me as the kind of paper that hates people with regional accents.

But then there's never a time to bring up emotional events such as these. You do it away from an anniversary, not only is it not something people haven't been thinking about but you get "why are you bringing this up now suddenly? Why are you stirring?". At least bringing up issues around the time of an anniversary, it's at a time when people really should be thinking about these things. How best to remember the events, how to move on, what you can learn etc.
To make discussing things a perpetual taboo until it's someone decided it's no longer 'Too Soon' doesn't help learn from the past and it barely helps learning how to cope with past events.
To use WW2 again, it's got to the stage where it's actually a crime (for which you can be extradited) if you debate certain sensative subjects.
*edit*
probably would make for a better placed discussion in off topic, any chance of a split? Better than just quoting these posts.Last edited by abigsmurf; 15-04-2009, 14:08.

My experience is that no one ever wants to discuss emotional things, on of the key reasons/justifications for the Iraq war was September 11th. Arguing against it was disrespecting the people who died in the attacks (which the Bush administration capitalised on by making blatantly false links between 9/11 and Iraq).
There's such a reluctance to talk about these things ever that we don't learn from them like we should.

Yeah Liverpool have just over powered and out played Arsenal in the second half.
EDIT: 2-2 now, what a hit by Arshavin.Last edited by ezee ryder; 21-04-2009, 20:22.
