I just can't understand why our players can play the fast frenetic pace of the premiership week in and week out and yet on the world stage are so slow and dull . We can't out play or out pass other countries , so why no try using our league's strength to our advantage and just go all out for it .
That said a draw out there is not a bad result at the end of the day

The PL didn't fill up with foreigners and thus lower the standard of the English. The standard of English players was already poor-average and so cheaper and better foreigners were turned to by the club sides. We simply don't coach our kids well enough. If we banned all foreign players tomorrow the England team wouldn't benefit much, we'd simply end up with a larger pool of average players to choose from.
If the way we coach young kids doesn't change, then England will remain a team who will be "decent but a couple of notches below the best" no matter what else we do.

It's an oft sited example but England were terrible in the 70's (Failed to qualify for the Euros / World Cup in 1972, 1974, 1976 and 1978) and aside from the Scots, Welsh and Irish there were virtually no foreigners in the league back then. 1994 too, very small percentage of foreigners in the PL at the time, but the England team failed to qualify for the World Cup.

It has nothing to do with imports. The world has caught us up and we have done nothing to improve our game. Japan are a prime example. 20 years ago they formed their league and the players have bloomed as a result. Lots of South American influence and they have developed their game along with the other leading nations. Watch them play, their midfield would tear us a new one. Many other smaller nations have also improved and there are very few easy games in the international game today.
