That is precisely the kind of man you need with these players
Someone like Ian Holloway is more needed imo. A man that can do a job with not the best players in the world.

a truly charismatic english manager who totally transformed spurs in one season.
See people say this and have a go at Roy for winning nothing and what has Harry Won ? . I don't think you can get anymore charismatic than king Kev and yet the players let him down . To me its the players that are the ones that are to blame. But I would agree that Harry should have gotten the call infront of Roy

Of course the players can do better, lampard and gerrard were world beaters not so long back, rooney is still top class....defoe is vastly underrated, ashley cole is rated as the top player in his position anywhere.....etc etc etc.

Harry won the FA cup with portsmouth, and took spurs from relegation battle, to champions league qualification in just over a season...that alone was AMAZING.

He's english, he's likeable, and he likes attacking play.

Everything we needed in capello's successor.

I agree in large that the players are to blame, but a special manager gets the best out of his players.

Roy was never going to take us anywhere.

Spurs were not in a relegation battle at all. They simply had a poor start.

The truth is somewhere in the middle, I think. It wasn't a Wigan style last day escape, but I think it's wrong to say we weren't in a relegation battle at all that season. It wasn't plain sailing and worry free as soon as Harry took over.

Even as late as the start of March we were only three points clear of the bottom three and had the same points as Newcastle, who went down that season. I don't think you can be in the bottom three, or one bad result away from being in it, for three quarters of the season and claim to not have been involved in any kind of relegation battle.

I know I was sh*tting myself for a long time that season before I felt safe

I don't think the top players would respect Holloway as much as Redknapp. There's such a strong respect for Redknapp amongst footballers, because he's got a personality they appreciate. I don't know exactly how he inspires people, but he does, and that is vitally important.

I didn't feel much positivity surrounding Eriksson or Capello, so that was a big issue. Players definitely need to feel happy and positive. Hodgson doesn't come across as very enthusiastic or confident. I personally like Redknapp's persona, and I think most football people do. He would certainly inject some life into the England squad.

I don't think they ever were world beaters at all -That was just bull**** hype by the press and the bias fans imo.

I was at that FA Cup final, but C'Mon lots of managers have won the FA and wouldn't class them as England manger material or did we see the likes of Royle or Bobby Gould has England managers ? I would have hardly classed Spurs has relegation material either (not to say that he didn't do a good job though)

So was King Kev and that we all know what happend there .

That's the trouble and player power . Most of them are overpaid spoilt brats that need a good kick up the ass or to be dropped . Harry won't have the balls to do that, but the likes of Ian would . To me, that's part of what England needs; A fresh new start and dropping half of these so called world beaters, that have been anything butt on the world stage

Of course, you're right, players are spoilt. The thing is, no one can do anything about it, because that's part of modern football.

Holloway's tough attitude may work with players who aren't stars, but it wouldn't work with top England players. He could choose non-stars, but I don't think the FA would allow it. Anyway, it would probably end up being an even worse disaster for England.

Even spoilt players respect Redknapp as a man and a manager. He's definitely a tough individual, and people like his straight talking, positive attitude. He's the only guy that I think could have a chance of sorting out the problems with England.

They showed a lot of that at QPR last season

Someone like Ian but not the man himself. He is such an average manager that says a few funny things.

No quite and I think you're being very unfair to the man . What he did at Blackpool was nothing short of a miracle: To come into a team fast going nowhere only able to bring in 2 of your own players , have next to nothing to spent and yet in less than 8 months totally transfomer the style of football they play and get them into the Premeier league through the playoff's, was nothing short of incredible imo.

So far, England vs Poland has been a very good watch, much better than the average England match. Cracking shot by Andros Townsend just now that hit the bar. Poland have looked dangerous a few times on the counter attack though. Could be a very tense and tight night!

Edit: especially when Wellbeck misses chances like that

But that Rooney goal should help the nerves! Still only one needed from Poland to balls it all up though.

And that Gerrard goal makes the last five minutes stress free. Looking forward to the World Cup in Brazil, should hopefully be better than the let down of the 2010 tournament.

Yes it was a very good performance but the Poles could have punished England on the break several times. Bought back memories of that often referred to Poland match 40 years ago because that is how they did for our World Cup aspirations then. They were using very similar tactics this time too. Luckily Smalling was up to the job but I do think the defence missed Kyle Walker's speed in dealing with those breaks.

Smalling is never a full back, but thought he did well especially in the air.

Still not convinced about flattop patrolling our left, I like him but is a bit bambi on ice.
