Err, Lampard was better than Gerrad. Scored from a penalty when under immense pressure and although he didn't really contribute much other than that, at least he didn't waste every one of the free kicks we had. Only thing I can remember Gerrad doing well was when he slid in to intercept the cross in the second half that would have almost certainly led to a goal.

All in all, I think Lampard was the more useful player there, as without Gerrad Beckham may have played and he wouldn't have wasted all our free kicks like that.

Must be a two horse race between Sammy Lee and Terry Venables.

      Taken from sky sports news:

"We have also terminated the contract of assistant Terry Venables, also with immediate effect."

It's amazing - we go out and our manager is hailed a hero.

You lot go out and yours gets his contract terminated halfway through - he didn't even kick the ****ing ball

No, but he made absolute **** tactical decisions.

Apparently was shouting "stay back!" to the players after the second goal was scored.

            Is McLaren Scottish?

Hmm... Scottish name, ginger hair, wears a kilt to bed (possibly untrue) and did everything to ensure England didn't qualify.

Damn you English FA, DAMN YOU!

I noticed that. Not him shouting, but just before they scored their third goal we were playing in our own half, 11 men behind the ball, just like we always do when we go 1-0 up. Even though it fails every time. I was gonna post here about how it was gonna make for a really **** last 20 minutes or whatever, but they scored before I had a chance.

McClaren stands to get a big fat pay off from the termination of his contract, ₤2.5 million to be exact, for ****ing up sadly.

That's always the way though isn't it - makes me sick too.

How much did Errikson walk away with ?

I think Erikkson walked away with something like ₤3.5 million. Even though Erikkson flopped, I have to admit he didn't have any real trouble in getting England to qualify unlike McClaren.

I just wanna say, as everyone seems to be fellating Beckham for his performance, not one of his fabled set pieces got over the first man. Not ONE! He slowed the game down too and was out of position. The improvement in the 2nd half came from a change in formation.

Sven got us out of a massive hole in 2001. Qualified with a good setup in 2004 and and qualified well again in 2006. We actually played quite well in 2002 and 2004 but were ****e in 2006. People are very forgetful aboyut Sven's early days.

Not unless you count the last minute equalizer at home to Greece in the 02 World Cup qualifiers, which saved us from a play-off place.

To be fair Sven did join after we had managed 1 point in two games against Germany and Finland.

You're wrong. Sorry, but you are.

Going a goal up in competitive matches at the finals of major tournaments and then just sitting back and REPEATEDLY giving the ball back to the opposition and begging them to equalize (and I for one can name countless examples of this at both the finals of 2002 World Cup & Euro 2004) simply doesn't constitute playing well.

Ah, fair enough but at least Sven didn't have to rely on the likes of Isreal and *ahem* Andorra to throw him a lifeline.
