All in all, I think Lampard was the more useful player there, as without Gerrad Beckham may have played and he wouldn't have wasted all our free kicks like that.

Must be a two horse race between Sammy Lee and Terry Venables.Originally posted by Fireproofradiator View PostI guess we'll just see how Venables does now he's on his own. I fully expect him to massively distance himself from Maclaren in the papers and start positioning himself as an interim solution. We could do worse.
"We have also terminated the contract of assistant Terry Venables, also with immediate effect."

Apparently was shouting "stay back!" to the players after the second goal was scored.

I just wanna say, as everyone seems to be fellating Beckham for his performance, not one of his fabled set pieces got over the first man. Not ONE! He slowed the game down too and was out of position. The improvement in the 2nd half came from a change in formation.
Sven got us out of a massive hole in 2001. Qualified with a good setup in 2004 and and qualified well again in 2006. We actually played quite well in 2002 and 2004 but were ****e in 2006. People are very forgetful aboyut Sven's early days.

Not unless you count the last minute equalizer at home to Greece in the 02 World Cup qualifiers, which saved us from a play-off place.

Going a goal up in competitive matches at the finals of major tournaments and then just sitting back and REPEATEDLY giving the ball back to the opposition and begging them to equalize (and I for one can name countless examples of this at both the finals of 2002 World Cup & Euro 2004) simply doesn't constitute playing well.
