I don't think he deserved the place ahead of Bentley because I wanted to see Bentley given a chance. But I would have put him in in place of Wright-Phillips.

Beckham turned his back on football when he went to the MLS. He CHOSE to be famous in the states rather than keep extending himself in the company of high quality footballers.
He has done nothing to warrant his place while Capello has been manager (as that is clearly how the squad was picked) and frankly, I see it as tricky to see him warranting a place unless he decides that he wants to be a footballer instead of a "face". Until Capello takes jollies out to the states to watch charity matches, I cannot see why he should watch him.

Yeah I remember that, I think their arguement was that he didnt get enough goals and they thought Crouch would do better. To be fair while I thought Rooney was great last night, and there is no denying he has goals in him, his hold up play is also terrific.
I thought once Crouch came on that the two of them actualy linked up really well and probabaly should have BOTH played upfront from the start. Cappelo as always played 442 in the past so the formation was quite a strange decsion.Last edited by rmoxon; 07-02-2008, 12:03.

Though it was an okay performance, second half was entertaining. I think Crouch shoud start as I think he's actually a far better player than he's given credit for.
Joe Cole and Bentley superb, Gerrard ok. Jenas his usual self apart from the goal (which any goalscoring midfielder would have scored), Barry a bit anonymous.
Wes Brown was a bit poor and Ashley Cole was crap. Upson dubious but acceptable, Rio fine.
Once our defefenders are fit again we could actually be a good side.

Nope, I read he was out with an injury. I don't think France are what they were at the beginning of the decade, they're much more beatable now (I couldn't see the France team of 98-00 losing twice to Scotland) so I reckon England have a decent chance.
That said, they can still turn it on when they need to (as they showed in the World Cup knockout rounds) so they'll still be tough. I do think we can win it though.
