Downing's cut-in and pass style can't really be compared to Joe Cole. Cole is right footed, he needs to get it onto his right peg. Downing used to be an adventurous winger with a good left peg, but he's rendered utterly ineffectual when he doesn't use the flanks. If he plays like he did at the Mackems, then I'd love him to get into the England side to get the balance needed. But we can't simply overlook his problems due to him being the only left-footed player out there.

So, anyone going to the match tonight? I'm going with my Dad and my younger brother, which will be nice as it's rare for us to get to Tottenham matches together these days. First visit to the new Wembley, and the first time I've been there since... an England vs Croatia friendly before Euro 96! That was a ****ty match so I hope this is betterHopefully it'll be a good match and a win for England!

Having said that Cole had a good game tonight so i guess it made all that redundant anyway....
But why was Gerrard the man of the match exactly?

Not sure about man of the match either..
Overall, we definitely had better shape going forwards or backwards.
I'm quite impressed. Rooney definitely is integral to us..and i'm afraid to say, we will always be a weakened side without him. His work-rate is phenomenal and he is such a great player. I hate wankchester too, but credit where credit is due.

I thought we were ok, kept the ball well in places, no hit and hope rubbish and some nice patient attacks. Wes Brown was the obvious lowlight for me, kept giving it away. Was so poor that at one point Motty called him "Wayne Brown" - lol
David James didn't have a great deal to do but still looked dodgy in places. Couple of poor kicks and was lucky right at the death as he did one of his bonkers suicide missions away from the goal line. Shouldn't be in the team anyway because he is a Skate bastard. Get Robert Green in there.
After some of the more scurrilous rumours it was funny hearing Motson use the line: "Jenas. Finds Brown" in his commentary

Wasn't exactly a great advert for the game, but it was okay in places. As a Spurs fan it was made much better by Jenas getting a goalCan't really read anything into it though as Capello has only had three days and a few training sessions with them. It'll be a while before his influence truly shows.
Oh, they really need to sort out the transport situation at Wembley, the queuing for the train was shocking! I'm sure it wasn't that bad at the old Wembley, and the capacity isn't THAT much more now.

I think I'm more happy with the things that didn't happen in the game rather than the things that did. For example us going one nil up and then continuing to play, whereas before it's been a case of "get into the position you need, then sit back." Excellent to see us pass it around patiently too like a proper team instead of the old hitnhope.
Does anyone still think Beckham deserved that place ahead of Bentley?
