hate portugal, chief of cheats is that rat faced diver Deco, worse lot than Spain for simulation.

this game is the first so far with a nasty cheaty edge to it, there will be a red for sure. its always portugal, recall last time round the war they had with holland.

I'm not writing it off yet but agreed, its been by far the worst WC I've ever seen, quality is lacking as is the desire to actually push on and win.

I'm watching now as feel it owes me a game and know if i don't it will be the game that kicks it all off.

Quite obviously you all think it's boring, but I see it as teams really being cautious and not wanting to lose the first game. I guarantee it will open up more from the 2nd and 3rd group games. Though it seems most people have short memories of the many tournaments before pretty much being the same apart from the occasional high scoring thriller.

Agree with the above, I said a day or so ago that hopefully we will start to see better matches when teams get to the stage where they have to win or they'll be going home.

Having said that, just because you know a reason why teams might be cautious and lacking ambition in the early matches, it doesn't stop them from being dull to watch

This is such a bad world cup Im not sure if the ball is to blame but no teams (Germany aside) have been able to string a pass together.

That's the thing.
The opening game of the 2006 World Cup between Germany v Costa Rica was more entertaining to watch than the whole of World Cup 2010 (so far) combined.
It did help that there were a couple of cracking long range goals from Lahm and Frings back then.

the first round of 16 games in Germany produced 39 goals at 2.43 goals per game

at present (if this game ends 0-0) we have 20 goals from 13 games at 1.54 goals per game.

this is a far more negative tournament than Germany which started quite briskly then tailed off at the business end of things
